Truly lazy ways to earn a living income online

We've all heard and read about "lazy" ways to make money online and I generally ignore this kind of hype. However, I have a friend who knows he is very lazy, and asked me to suggest ways for him to make money in retirement where he only has to do the work once and then can continue to earn money afterwards from that for a long time.

Has anyone experienced or observed any business models that really are passive income, once they're set up? Ironically, most people who teach how to create passive income are very hard workers themselves!

Thanks,
Marcia Yudkin

Oh yeah REALLY? Where did you learn your affiliate marketing technique from may I ask?

I don't think this is a good strategy to use Sayn, sorry to burst that bubble. But Facebook marketing and conversion take time simply because you have to build a relationship first before you post the "affiliate link." Moreover posting it everyday will piss of your fans and may even induce them to opt-out from your Fb Page. #justsayin:rolleyes:

There is nothing wrong working hard on "lazy methods to richness". It just makes you get there faster

That said, I really can't think of any "business model" that fits what your friend are looking for. Business usually require some sort of commitment, either time, money or (read AND) effort. Nevertheless, if you find one, do inform all us here :-)

No, I have not seen any lazy way. Even companies like Facebook and Google work their Butts of to be ahead of the game. They may make allot of money but in a week they could be dead. The only passive income strategies Iv seen work have been fraud and very short lived niche marketing opportunities.
Making money online is very tough! You are in a world market where some of your fiercest competition can work for $1 per hour.

All joking aside, IM does take a little bit of work. I'd recommend something like Plan B Profits that helps you build a killer squeeze page. Market that, get the opt ins and start emailing to the list for whatever niche you build. I went from $0 to $5000 a MONTH in about 2 months in a NEW niche to me before with that method - BUT i did spend a few hours a day at first getting everything going.

Nothing is coming to my mind that fits your description perfectly. Everything requires occasional updating/work etc. If your friend really wants to be lazy, he can setup a website for an eternal niche, and do SEO, make it profitable etc, and then train and hire someone to constantly update it. If he finds someone reliable enough, he can just sit back and be lazy and watch the money pour in.

Just about anything is going to take some work in the beginning. You may be able to earn passive profits from it later, like with affiliate sites or products you create and sell. Once they get popular and get enough traffic coming in, you can often just sit back and collect the profits. But there's a lot of work that goes into building that first and setting everything up for earning the passive profits.

I think it depends on what assets or Internet property your friend already has.

For example, if your friend has a website getting plenty of traffic every month, he could easily sell ad space or "rent" out his site to someone who will benefit from the traffic.

And then he (or she) simply collects payment every month like a landlord

Although it's definitely possible to build passive income streams, it's not easy and it's a TON of work in the beginning plus a lot of testing and tweaking to get it to the point where it's truly autopilot.

I've done it in multiple niches, and even after I had the process down, it still was never easy.

Thanks very much for the serious replies so far! (You know who you are.)

I should clarify: hard work is OK in the beginning for my friend, but not more than an hour or two a week after that.

He has a lot of offline intellectual assets, but nothing online as yet.

I was thinking of recommending Kindle ebooks and how-to DVDs on evergreen topics. What do you think about that approach?

Find a high paying recurring commission product that sells well and where buyers stick with the product for a long time.

Software is good because if it's quality, a business will stick with it because it works and there's an investment of time to get it going. They'll be reluctant to abandon it if they've invested time and money in getting it set up.

Figure out how many sales you need to make to generate the recurring income you want. Then work like crazy generating sales by:
    • Start a blog catering to the market for whom the product is perfect. Provide some great content.
    • Promote the product in a few pillar blog posts. Rank at the top of the search engines (plenty of work up front). Do your keyword research first. The more targeted traffic to your blog, the better.
    • Build a list for whom the product is perfect. Promote the product to the list in an e-mail sequence (in a few e-mails and in the signature of every e-mail). Be sure to send non-sales-oriented e-mails as well.
    • Use banner ads with your affiliate link in your blog.
    • Just get targeted traffic to your blog. If you like Facebook then use it.
    • Track your campaigns to see what converts.
    • Keep on selling that product until you sell enough where the recurring commissions provide the lifestyle you want. Don't get distracted ... keep on promoting the product. Most affiliate commissions are lousy. When you find a winner that converts - stick with it. I'd rather promote a few products that sell than many that don't.

Note, you'll need to keep generating sales to compensate for cancellations. However, if you have a campaign that generates sales to the point where the recurring commissions pay for your lifestyle, then likely that campaign does not need too much maintenance.

Does this method require work? Yes. But recurring commissions, if you like affiliate marketing and wish to establish passive income, are excellent. It's slow-going at first, but in the long run are amazing.

Once you have sufficient income, you can hire someone or some people to help building up the campaigns. At this stage you're pretty much set to work a reduced workload.

Or, sit back, let your campaigns earn for you and collect recurring commission checks.

The laziest way I can think of is to post youtube videos with affiliate links, all you got to know is how to rank them, not only in youtube but google as well. and DO NOT violate youtubes TOS or you will get them removed. (a real bummer when you have one making money & then you lose it, trust me I know). im not sure this is a sustainable long term strategy gowever since you are always at risk of losing an asset that is under someone elses control, but it can work, of course it helps if you know how to make videos that actually get people to click.

    1. He could follow in your footsteps, write a book or other content which is done once, then work on marketing, publicity, selling through Amazon, letting affiliates promote, etc. This is one of my favorites.

    2. Adsense. I have web pages that haven't been touched in over 6 years that still make money month after month.

    3. Pay Per Click. This can take more initial effort, but once a campaign is running and profitable it can run for a long, long time without maintenance. This can be fast money. It can also lead to fast losses.

    4. Affiliate programs with recurring commissions.

    5. Buy stocks that pay dividends and ignore the ups and downs of the market. OK, I suppose this is not 'online' and does not count.

    6. Setup an autoresponder sequence that runs without further work. The only question will be the front end and getting leads.

There are others I do, but I'm no fool about publicly disclosing them in a place like this.

Building an information business can be automated after all the hard work as been put in. Depends how much the person wants to outsource before hand.

Its not IM, but Real Estate can be passive and is one of my bigger goals.

As someone mentioned in the CPA section - affiliates do much more than 500k a month. Some do, or have done that every few days (almost 100mm/year). As far as automated.. it all depends on the person and how much they want to automate.

These people don't post on the warriorforum. They probably don't post in any forums. If you want to meet these people you would need to go to industry conferences (Affiliate Summit) or other conferences. And you would need someone to introduce you to them.

Their are affiliates doing millions a year. And information publishers (agora) , last I heard (could be more/less now) was doing around 250 million a year. Thats around 20 million a month!!!!

They make the IM "Gurus" look like school kids.

Buy a website that is making money, and, hire the person who sold it to you to manage it, or, sub contract the person you bought it from to continue to maintain the profit generating site for you.

There you go, passive from day one

    Marcia,
My two favorite, most stable are royalty-based.

Stock photography has been earning for me since 2006.
Kindle publishing had been earning for me since late 2008.

Adsense and affiliate programs are runners up, but they're not as consistent or as hands free. (For me)

Will my top picks sustain the test of really long term (20+ years)? That's the unknown of the moment

Any type of licensing/IP should work in general I'd think.
    Hope that helps,
    Kathy

    Well, here is method;

Register with as many legitmiate GPT sites as you can.then start referring people to those sites to earn commission. Some of them offer 6 level deep referral commission.

Refer enough people to enough GPT sites, then you wont have to do anything else.

Of course, to get to the point where you can actually make any decent amount of money you would have to refer thousands of people. Which if you are going to spend that much time and money to do that, you may as well, set up a small niche blog with low competition, rank it well and monetize it.

    Heres one for you...

Go to the Warriors For Hire section and hire someone to create an ebook product. Hire another to do some graphics. Hire another to write a sales page. Finally post the sales copy up on a website to sell the product and then pay someone to promote it for you.

Doesn't get any easier than this and it can all be done for around $300 - $500

Make some profit and do it again, rinse and repeat.

Tell your friend to publish a few quality ebooks to Amazon and Smashwords. There's quite a few winning niches such as recipes, weight loss and self improvement. If he doesnt wanna do ALL the work, have him hire someone on Fiverr---the worker does half the book and he does the other half. Whatever works.

The above are just the basics, but it IS effective if properly executed. For example, i spent $15 on an ebook 2 months ago, and to date ive received over $400 in sales. Rinse and repeat with with 5, 10, 15+ books.

As long as he has some basic knowledge on whats booming right now and has some money to outsource, THAT could get him the lazy life he envisions

A highly converting (somewhat reverse) squeeze page with an autoresponder series. You can build a relationship, sell as well as funnel members into other autoresponder lines.

    Feed it with PPC.

The size and scope of your AR series would need to be pretty extensive and tested as would your PPC campaign.

The PPC would need to be monitored until such time as the funnel is providing enough income to hire someone to monitor it for you.

You use a affiliate link that pays residual commissions and work the hell out of it, Then every time that one buyer buys you get paid. Sites like forex, Casinos ect, something the buyer will come back often for. Its a hard first sale but with residuals it pays off.

Ask your friend to invest on weighing machine (I mean check your weight machine) and put the same in beauty salons. Ask him to give a share to the beauty salon owner. Every week let him go to the salon and pull out money. Ask him not to spend this money. Once reasonable amount accumulates, let him reinvest in another machine and put it in another salon. Once he reaches 100 machines and 100 salons, ask him to stop investing and enjoy his life.

"Get Paid To" ... You get paid to read an email, watch an advertisement, or sign-up for something, whatever... Normally it is less than 1 cent each (although there are looooong lists of scam sites promising huge payouts)

You also get "paid" for recruiting other people to the sites. Some people claim to be making a significant amount of money this way.

No and think I was the first customer to push button marketer, autopilot this and that. Everything takes work, alot at first but then it still requires work afterwards.

Lets take walmart as an example, they are huge, they started small. If they were to quit advertising and marketing would they make it. Yes at first but Target and the rest would take over soon. Don't sleep but learn to outsource if you want to be a little lazy.

Now, I don't know this first hand, but my wife's- friend's- neighbor's cousin told me that if you just do 30 minutes of surveys online, you could make $3,000 a month.

Seriously though, I don't know of a lazy way to cash other than having a butt load of money and automating a system like affiliate website or adwords. Even this is trial and error and testing, testing, testing.

This is a good discussion not that there is necessarily an easy way to make money but it is wise to look at what type of business you want to build. Some online businesses certainly are easier to outsource and lend more to the "lazy" lifestyle if you will. I have abandoned some of my past work that didn't fit that model.

For the income to be passive and enough there are few requirements:
    - not needing to put a lot of time to get traffic
    - having something to sell
    - no need for continuous content creation

In my mind those restrictions leave out a lot of "methods" or business models.

One thing still comes to mind: Kindle publishing. (As some others have pointed out too)

    It is great because:
    - you need to create the content once
    - Amazon "will market" it
    - you can leverage Amazons brand => no need to "become an expert"
    - you don't HAVE TO get traffic

      Think about it:

Imagine, for a moment, that there really is a way to generate cash online that requires very little work, and someone has discovered it.

Since Web hosting is cheap, one can easily replicate most sites. Our hypothetical money machine can therefore probably be replicated to generate additional cash. It cannot, however, be replicated to infinity, as this would generate an infinite amount of cash, which is logically impossible. Besides, since the number of humans on the planet is finite, any market will eventually be saturated. So additional sites cease to be profitable when the inevitable saturation point is reached. And even before that happens, the law of diminishing returns will kick in.

So what any reasonable inventor of such a system will do is keep replicating his or her method as long as it stays profitable (by definition, it's a "lazy man's system" so there's little effort in doing this and no reason to stop until profitability ceases to be significant). Our inventor will also want to keep very, very quiet about what he or she has created since every additional user of the system is likely to behave in the same manner and rapidly work toward the saturation point, at which it becomes unprofitable for everybody.

OTOH, if the market is already saturated, or the profit potential of any given "system" is small or nonexistent, then the inventor might decide that there is nonetheless a profit to be earned in convincing others that the system is worth a lot of money, and charging for the information.

Do you see where I'm going with this ....

    1. Outsource everything to get the "grunt" work done.
    2. Hire a manager you can trust to run the business.
    3. Sit on the beach enjoying your favorite adult beverage.

Hey, you asked. That's the lazy way. You didn't say anything about needing lots of money to start with.
