Shiny, Baby Powder-Fresh Newbie

So I stumbled onto this site being a little snarky and depressed and typed "how to make 10k/month" into Google and... found a legitimate and not scamming IM forum.

Yay Google!

I am looking for some help in how to get started (some of the terms and lingo escape me a bit, maybe a good idea might be a dictionary? Or if there is one already, could someone point my clueless self in that direction?) The reason why I'm looking into IM, or writing articles for blogs for now, is because I'm an English student who lives with her parents and commutes 90 minutes to school twice a week. I'm not looking for a miracle, despite my incriminating Google search, but my parents support me and frankly, I'm overqualified for a lot of the jobs here. My first goal is $300/month, which will pay the gas for me to go to school. I'm planning on putting an ad on Warriors for Hire and Fiverr for now, but I am hoping to get some more help while I'm here, just in general, since I do blog, but my blogs are more personal than an income generator. I guess I should be asking questions about generating traffic?

Anyways, if you didn't fall asleep halfway through that, thank you, and I look forward to learning from everybody.

    Hello and welcome!

    Being an English student, your writing and grammar skills should make you a much sought-after article writer. I would definitely use your English student credentials as one of your selling points. Depending on the strength and creativity of your writing, you may even wish to start a new blog based on a chosen niche and then monetize it. Here's a new post on the forum that discusses the "niche" issue as it pertains to those new to Internet Marketing.

    I'm certain you'll find success--definitely enough to cover your initial goal of $300/month. Just keep looking for ways to maximize the return on your efforts, and you will go far!

    Enjoy.

      In addition to writing articles, consider learning how to write press releases (Google for more info).

      I'm talking about REAL press releases, the kind that REAL reporters and news outlets (online and offline) will pick up and use. Not the garbage that people pay $5 for, but useful pieces for which real businesses pay upwards of $100.

      There's less competition than in article writing and the rewards are greater.

    @John- Lolz at your sig

    I'm not a "militant" vegan, I'm vegan 49% for the animals/51% for food allergies and sensitivities. I have no problem with people eating meat, just how that meat is treated before it makes it's way to your hamburger bun. But that is really good advice, thank you!

    @Wilton- Thank you!

    @Gail- I hadn't thought about that at all! I'm going to jump on that right now!

    Consider gathering writers and be the top lead and market your writing services to WF DP BHW and so forth, then go for iwriter and other sites. This way you can manage a team of writers and make more money. Give first to receive though. Like if here offer a few free articles to get some feedback going and pour your heart into them. Then offer a few more at a stupid price and do the same thing. Go up a little and so forth till your about close to the average.

    @hustlinsmoke- That is BRILLIANT! Maybe after I've gotten some feedback by myself I can look around the English dept. here for some other poor college kids... so maybe ten inches in front of my face

    Also I forgot to mention another reason I'm looking at IM for income is because I'm hoping to start my own YouTube series, one on cooking and another, separate one for a comedy movie/music/game review show, and I'd like to have at least a little time in the week to work on that, mainly the commute to a normal job (closest is 30 min. away) to work on the content and filming of those as well. I'm thinking those can go into the niche dept. as well, yes?

      I like you kid. I will send you a pm with my addy in it, contact me when you do this and I will be the first to review you.

      P.S. Well video sells here too, in fact I am building a video based membership site right now. I just spent probably about 1500 on it with 300 or so on videos so far. Video is where it is at in internet marketing. You can make a mint.

    Thank you to everyone who replied! I know that threads about being newbies and what to do in the beginning are incredibly common and you probably get bored writing the same information over and over, but I appreciate it all the same.

    So I've decided to start by writing articles, on iwriter, textbroker and fiverr just to generate some modest, quick income. My goal for the next 30 days is $300, so $10 a day while I work on setting up blogs, figuring out how to work a squeeze page, generating traffic, etc.

    The next month, when things are going smoother and I have a better idea, I'd like to shoot for $600 a month and work more. I just want to keep doubling that goal each month until I get to $10k a month, when I can pat myself on the back and show my bank account to my father who insists I get "a real job".

    Now I'm not saying that I'm expecting to hit that in 6 months ($300-month 1, $600-month 2, $1200- month 3, 2400-month 4, $4800-month 5, $9600-month six): probably more like 12-18 months before I get to that point. These are just goals, and from what I've read on this board, more people succeed shooting high and not beating themselves up because they didn't reach it than people who aimed low and achieved it.

      It's amazing how much a little "I'll show'em" spite can accomplish. Go for it.

      It's been attributed to so many people that I don't know who to credit, but "shoot for the moon - even if you miss, you'll land among the stars."
