Online Business vs Making Money Online

I have spent the better part of my 14 plus years online building systems for others to make money online. Some have wanted quick buck type mini-sites while others have decided to go for authority type business models and wait for the money to come in.

I decided 2012 would be my time to set my own mega site type business up

This is how I will go about it.

I have been very actively doing keyword and competition research for almost a month now. Each keyword has been assigned to it's own part of a traffic funnel. These keywords are somewhat evergreen. Their numbers will fluctuate somewhat but should have value long into the future.

The Main Site:

This site will be designed to help both the online and offline marketer. I mean truly help .. not a sales pitch hiding behind apparent help. I have learned you can show people exactly how to do things and still make good money.

You gain credibility by helping some people who just simply do not have the money to hire you. You attract people who, because you spell it out in black and white for them, realize you know what you are doing, and would rather pay you to do it than worry with it themselves.

The main site will target keywords that are highly contested and those that rank for them will not roll over easily. So how will I get traffic to this site? Good question.

Feeder Sites:

Now SEO will be a big part of the traffic strategy but still only a part. More on that later ...

The main feeder sites will target mid-range keywords that estimate between 1500 and 3500 visitors a day. Those keywords are not extremely easy to rank for but most would be surprised how quickly you can rank top fold for them if you just tackle them the right way.

Second tier feeder sites will target keywords that estimate 3500 or more visitors per month. Some of these keywords will be dominated in a matter of weeks, some in days .. some .. maybe never.

Low Hanging Fruit

Many try to make a living off of these types of keywords. You know the ones that can be competed for pretty quickly and estimate less than 125 visitors a day.

I will use high tier article directories, press releases, guest posting, and high end article syndication as some of the tactics to gain the traffic from these.

Each tier will use a forward linking structure that has been proven to work and every level I control will take advantage of a squeeze system for email marketing I have tweaked to the point of converting from 55 to 83%.

Each keyword tier will be treated the same way ... set the biggest, main keyword on the main site, run it's relatives through the descending tiers. Do a full promotion on each keyword in each tier ... go to the top and start a new keyword group.

The main site rankings could be well in the future and some of the keywords maybe never. With the structures set under the main site, it really doesn't matter if all the main keywords rank or if any of them do .. but most will in time.

The main site will contain an element I have never offered to clients before .. a membership, help desk, accounting, delivery, and affiliate management system sitting above it.

The cool thing about this highest tier is it keeps all my records for the tax man, delivers all products and services inside a protected area, support tickets, and offers the aspect of affiliate traffic. trains affiliates, and also offers tracking and payment for them .. without depending on a third party.

Of course, as time permits, I will add landing pages suited to PPC, solo ads, media buys, a call center. and other traffic sources.

With each tier needing to be promoted heavily, it will take a minimum of 20 days and more than likely 30 days to have each tier ( in each keyword line) supplying traffic to the main site.

I can easily build 5 tiers and maintain them. After that I will turn the maintenance of those 5 tiers over to an employee and start five more. One employee can more than likely maintain 15 different lines each week.

While I understand it would be somewhat more profitable to hire online personnel to do the maintenance, I will use local help for the majority of what I need. I am a true believer that charity starts at home and a lot of people are hurting around here.

Even with utilizing local talent, there will still be a lot of aspects that will need to be taken care of from online sources.

While this outline is not a step by step, I am sure if you look at it, you can see ways of getting traffic to your own sites

Thanks for the share! I'm trying to do something like that, but working on a smaller scale. It's great that you're giving jobs to local community members. Please, keep us posted on how things are going. It's tough for a lot of us to stay focused due to the constant "Push button for instant money" claims always being thrown our way. This has renewed my excitement about the online real estate that I will have a year from now.

As a complete noob here this all seems a far way away. But I understand your strategy and hope that it works for getting your main end target keywords ranked.

I agree that too many people keep customers chasing the light at the end of the tunnel rather than actually helping them get directly to the what they want. So I imagine you could pick up a lot of demand for your service.

While I will use all the locals I can, I will still need more content than they can provide. Send me an email and I will check your work out .. sorry I refuse to use fiverr .. it is a main contributor in lowering the perceived value of all online services

    Excellent post Troy.

I'm still at the money making phase for the most part, and doing quite well with it. But I also may make the move one day like you did.

    Congrats and best of luck.
