Anybody used or know anything about Welcome to Examiner.com | Examiner.com ? (not an aff link)

not sure what the deal is myself. Looks like a type of blog or something from what I can gather on the about us page. Has anybody here been utilising it with any successes?

This looks like a great site to possibly build backlinks and gain interest. This would definitely be a good place to feature offline clients in articles.

It's a major news company. Just search wiki for it.

They hire people regionally to write news stories about their local areas. Not sure what they pay. I've read a few of the stories and was impressed by a few of their journalists - others just seemed to be regurgitating MSM.

From what I read they require a journalist to write the articles. knocks alot of people off.

You can to make contact with writers on your desired topic. Or just sign up yourself.

From a writer's standpoint, the pay isn't that good. For SEO, they're a good source of backlinks ...which is what I've used it for. (It does bring traffic too)

A good friend of mine used to write for The Examiner. She wrote for them off and on for about 2 years, but then finally got frustrated and quit.

Although The Examiner allows you to post one line outbound links to your own private blog, website or similar, all of their content is NoFollow. They have a high PR of around 7. If you want NF for your SERP this is probably a good place to hang out for awhile and get some NF from a high PR.

Don't do it for the pay. You will starve to death. They deposit money to PayPal once a month IF you have published within a certain timeline they have defined.

Depending on how many views an article or blog receives is the baseline for how much you are paid. It can range from pennies a word to maybe up to 10 cents. Of course a lot depends on your topic area and how popular it is.

They have huge writer turnover because they are constantly changing their publishing platform and tools which frustrates the writers. They also tend to bully their writers if they don't publish frequently enough. They withhold payment or threaten to remove the writer's title.

Recently they had a huge exodus because they started to require all writers to go through an editing phase before their articles could be published.

While The Examiner has been purchased at least once in the past few years by a major publishing conglomerate and has partnerships with Reuters and large photo publishers, they tend to have very high turnover in their upper management ranks just as they do with the independent writers.

If you want to write for them, it's pretty easy to get hired (or at least it used to be) and they give you a wide berth on your topic selections in your genre. But don't count on making much money unless you do a lot of independent promotion via Social Media.

There are lot of competitors out there where you will make more money or you will get Follow links. Zimbio supposedly has Follow links and they have a high PR comparable with The Examiner.

Do your homework before signing on with The Examiner to make sure there's not a better gig out there somewhere else. Hope that helps.

Very well put. You are right on the money. I guess they cloak it by calling it something that sounds more like a newspaper such as The Examiner. Doesn't sound like an entertainment website, but that's exactly what it is.

They are an easier venue to write for than Forbes. If you want truly juicy backlinks, try Forbes
