Micro-niche sites (worth it?)

Hi guys, I'm a noob here. I recently have been playing around in affiliate marketing. but on the side I have purchased a couple of those micro-niche sites. - being a skeptic I can't let myself believe that people would make sites which bring in money and sell them for a bit under $40.

I figure for the sites to be worthwhile buying and having, they need to bring in at least $15 a month each. I keep trying to read reviews about the various places that sell them but all I hear is praise so it makes me skeptical that alot of crafty marketing has been created - I have already payed for 2 and waiting for them to be created. if they are a flop it's ok the money I spend was just for testing the waters but I would honestly like to hear an honest opinion of them (not from the creaters themselves)

In my own experience they do work and they do bring in decent money each month.

How micro are you talking about? I have several membership sites where I charge less than $20/month for drip fed content that has pretty high stick rates... around 30 percent have been on over a year.

But niche sites can be pure affiliate based- the monetization models don't really matter as long as there's steady traffic, they should keep making money while you build/buy more.

They definitely have the potential to make money but you have to be careful. Since early 2011 a LOT of Micro Niche sites have been slapped by Google because they are seen as a "made for adsense" site.

That being said if done correctly they can work really well. Just be prepared to have about half of them to get slapped by Google.

I would love to know how micro-niche is being defined?

Are we talking sites with under x posts/arcticles...what defines x?

Hi guys, thanks for your input.
I'm not trying to make a living off these sites they are merely a side project on my bigger affiliate sites stragetgy.

      - when I define micro-niche I mean one of those common single page, exact name domain adsense sites they sell on this site usually in packages for $30 - $40 a site.

basiclly if on average those sites make around $15 a month I'm happy, but I guess I'll find out soon when the first 2 sites a delivered.

In my opinion those one-page Adsense sites are a waste of time. Even if you eventually get them ranked, sooner or later they will likely get zapped by Google. For long-term success you need to build the sites out more.

Let us know how that works out for you. What are you marketing strategies for each site besides the "exact match domain name" strategy?

$15 a month is very little to be earning with any site. Would it really be worth promoting a site, adding content, getting backlinks etc for just $15 a month? Or are you not going to update them and just hope that they rank?

I have alot of micro niche sites (micro niche by my own definition anyway - everyone seems to have a slightly different definition though), and they all earn $300+ per month each. I focus on affiliate sales rather than Adsense.

Niche sites are fine but please try to deliver some kind of value. Too many people whack up loads of crappy sites which end up failing for them and pollute the internet ecosystem. You can always do better.

I think you must not go very deep into any niche you will rank better and early if you go very deep but still your audience will be limited and you wont be earning much . To get more just get into your Niche little higher work hard on your content make a good site have a little patience and you will be up and much better then now.

I think MICRO niches are the only way to go! Low competition with tons of potential for profit! But there is a fine line between a Micro niche that has potential and a Micro niche that is TOO micro that you can't expand on it! Example: Discount Generators for Homes compared to Cheap Small Blue Generators with Wings.

^^ Forgive me if that example was horrible. =P

As far as the pre-built websites, I have no experience with those. But I'm sure from the right supplier you can get quality ones.

    Hope this Helped.

    Cheers

Micro niche websites are OK if you mean a very specific keyword and quite small market. You can make $15 on those sites, but the other questions that is very important for you to ask is, are those sites going to be only one site AdSense sites? If so, it's a waste of time. However, if this is your hobby, it's cool. Since you are here on a forum that we talk about making more than $15, you should build a website that you would regularly update with new articles and to create a value for your customers and visitors.

I personally would go for authority site and build it upon what your passions is. Hope it helps

Micro-niche sites need to have a good low competition/high search volume/high profitability ratios.

I'd get into a bigger niche and try to dominate keyword by micro niche sites.

Micro niche sites can work, provided it is the right niche with reasonable demand and you do your keyword research properly, particularly targeting buying keywords. If you get this right, even sites with only a few pages of content can be relatively easy to rank and can be very profitable.

One thing to be careful about when buying a site is unique content. If it is PLR content, it will need to be rewritten if you want to get ranked in the search engines.

Niche sites will preform well if you know how to do it...by buying those small niche sites, half the work is done for you..what you need to do is to drive traffic to it and see the sales to grow..at certain stages, you may wish to edit the niche sites such as adding on new content..

Roark85 (Howard?), let us know how it works for you. I would think it's good to learn for yourself how to do it, rather than just let someone do it for you. But if you have the money, you can buy it and that can be a learning process in itself. But sooner or later, you'll need to know how to do it yourself - keyword research, buying EMDs, etc.

I think those sites you have bought would still needs lots of work on it before it can be a success. Writing more articles, back linking, etc. Like you said, if it can make money so easily, they wouldn't have sold it for so cheap!

Let us know how it goes.

I have some niche sites that bring in money but to be honest with you I believe the future is in bigger, high-quality, authority sites. Sites with hundreds of genuine content.
