Embedding big MP4 file on my wordpress page - HELP!

Hello Fellow Warriors,

I have no doubt that some of you here have tried already embedding and playing big video file on your wordpress page, and my question now, how did you do it.

We have been using the traffic player plugin for quite some time now but this time we are having some difficulties on how to embed and play smoothly our 156 MB MP4 video. I am not sure if 156 MB for a video file is really that big but can you suggest me of other alternatives?

We tried to embed it using the mentioned plugin but the video player just kept on loading.

We are the one hosting the video, would that be the problem? We are now considering getting an amazon s3 account.

Any information you may provide will be highly appreciated!

Cheers,
Louie Tugas

    1. I would definitely get yourself an Amazon S3 account. A video of that size is only going to cause troubles for your own server. As far as I am concerned, S3 is the new standard for video storage.

    2. I would try and get the file a lot smaller. To do this I would either get rid of unnecessary information from the video and/or break the video up into shorter videos. You won't get much love from customers when the video takes forever to load. Hopefully S3 should help speed things up but you still want that file size as small as possible.

I use Amazon S3 for hosting my videos and I use EZS3.com for all my video players. It's the same video player used by people like Frank Kern, Ryan Deiss, etc. As you know these guys have loads of viewers and often have quite large video files also so if it's good enough for them, it should also be good enough for you.

Thanks mate, I have always admired your expertise when it comes to technical stuffs. You have helped me before too with my wordpress site.

I will check everything you mentioned and hopefully, I could get this sorted out as soon as possible.

Most webhotel servers have memory cap that doesn't let you upload big files. So go with Amazon S3 (also saves you tons of bandwidth).

Looks like WillR is right on - S3 is definitely the way to go and breaking the video up is a terrific idea. You may want to look at Easy Video Player - it integrates with S3 and works like a charm. For a less expensive alternative, you might consider Easy Video Press.

I use FlowPlayer and host all videos on YouTube. Firstly it is free, secondly you get the added benefit of traffic from the world's second most popular search engine.

Amazon S3 is definitely the way to go. James Renouf recently did a WSO about using it that you might find useful.
