Making Business Relationships - Important to Success?

Hi guys,

i just wanted to know what you thought about Business relationships. I am just 16 years old and i made $70 profit with my new business yesterday. They were my first few sales and they came from cold-calling companies and offering them my Social Marketing Promotion services.

During one of theese calls i ended up having a long conversation with a Woman who claimed she was also into social marketing and that she had many contacts. She sounded very business-minded and was very interested in forming a business relationship with me. The deal was that if i come across anyone that needs a website designing, i send them to her and receive 50% of the profits. She said that in return she has a lot of valuable contacts who may be interested in purchasing our Real Facebook Fans and Customers.

I am really happy i have made a business partnership so early on, what do you guys think about business partnerships? Have they helped you out or increased your business?

Thanks,
-Michael

Yes. Business partnerships have been super important to me. Being in internet marketing makes it easy to forget that there are real people in the real world who you can help and at the same time they can help you

As a business owner, we never ignore on business partner because they provide more opportunities to your business and with their help , you may get add on value and service to your business and products.

In the business line, get one partner or friend would be better than get one enemy and competitor.

        Hi Michael
I am very impressed that someone of your age has the mind set to actually take action and get on the phone and cold call. Fantastic that you got your first sales, 90% of people don't get that far.
With regards to your original question a resounding YES business relationships are the most important and best thing you will ever do. Building these relationships will stand you in good stead for years to come. This is why people do Networking, they are looking (or should be) to build long term relationships with like minded people in related industries that the can refer business to and hence get referrals. I have a bricks and mortar business and have been in sales for many years. the cornerstone of everything I do is building relationships as 99% of my business now comes form these relationships. My primary marketing activity is finding more "partners" and helping and supporting them. What you should look for are partners that can give you referrals and repeat business, so like the lady who was asking for Website design clients you will come across these as you are offering a related service. Just be careful that the referral system is reciprocal and if you do strike up a relationship it is two way
There is a famous phrase that BNI use which is "Givers gain" what that means is if I give you something I may get something back in return (not that you should expect something in return) so if you help other people to grow their business they will reciprocate when they come across someone who needs your type of service.
Keep up the good work Michael always refreshing to see someone get off their backside and make things happen
        Cheers
        Mark
Ps I see you are based in the UK, I have sent you a PM to get in touch

You should check out the Offline Marketing section of this forum for great tips on how to get more new clients, building relationships, and automating your consulting business. To form new business partnerships, go down to your local chamber of commerce and connect with the business owners there. Don't be intimidated because of your age... demonstrate value and they will find you credible. You may even get to form joint ventures with the business owners there.

I think if you wanna make 2k - 4k a month then just do you own thing or sell a few WSO's

if you want to hit the big time, yes, leveraging off others, and their lists is the way to go. 1 JV can get you more traffic and sales than what you can get from 6 months worth of articles or other traffic methods you are probably using.

There are lots of ways, and sometimes doing a JV begets more JV's and getting introduced to more people. Networking is how the big guys are doing it. While you do not have to do it, it is something that can bring you big results and fast sometimes too.

Not just important to success but CRITICAL to success. People do business with other people and if you are good at building rapport with clients then you will naturally sell them solutions to fix their problems. Building relationships is even more important nowadays because of the way that most people are bombarded with advertising from every angle.

Also, well done for having the guts to pick up the phone and just speak to people.

Business partners, in the long run, can be the ones that will save you a lot of time by giving you referrals, especially if you're providing something of value! Connect with business professionals online and offline. Online, use sites such as LinkedIn or even this WF forum to make connects in your industry. Offline, join your local small business association. Meet with your local entrepreneurs and you'll never know what will come next

I am saying it because if you are 16, you are very young and already thinking to start/grow a business. You know what other people are doing at your age. I bet you are a lonely ranger :-)

            Wait, there's more Michael!

The only limitations you have are not set by your parents, friends, circumstances, situations, school or whatever... 95% of ALL limitations that are preventing a person to succeed is YOURSELF (in a form of self-doubts, assumed constraints, and fears). Deal with those and you'll soon be out of the system that's not designed for the ordinary person - as long as you stay on top of things (your business).

Always look to build relationships with people, as you will both benefit. However, a word of advice, don't think about what others can do for you, as that is the surefire way to lose contacts.

Think about how you can help the other person, this way you will prove that you are a good person, and can be trusted.

    Take Care,

    Paul.

First of all, being 16, you are off to an amazing start. I home school my kids and teach them entrepreneurship and look forward to them starting their own businesses.

As for you answer...Business IS Relationships. Business deals are put together by building solid relationships, JV's deals like you just put together, businesses helping other businesses...So ABSOLUTELY.

I have a book you need to read...How to Win Friends and Influence People...

    Good job man!

Hi, first post here, My experience has shown me the importance of building relationships in the retail world. Moreover, I must say that relationships allowed me to reach different levels of success through the years. If you only knew the extent of meetings I have held to promote new ventures... Each of these meetings has contributed to the success of these new ventures.
What I am trying to say is that even with a business plan, a great product and you may be an Internet marketing wiz, but the right contacts and relationships can create a powerful momentum for your venture. In order to build relationships, you must define your vision, connect the suitable people to this vision and they will do the rest for you. Building relationships takes years and include offering value at all times. Sounds like you are off to a great start!

I agree that positive relationships are important when it comes to business. Let's say you're a landscaper. If you are friendly and get to know the client, they are more likely to pick you for the job, hit the Internet to write you a good review, and recommend you to their friends. You expect them to give you money, maybe a drink/meal, or a gift for your good work and friendliness, but flip that and give them a gift or an additional service free of charge and see how the rep grows.
