Is it good or bad to put out-links in your pages and posts?

I recently read a free pdf from the semper free 'plug-in pack for SEO' guy (can't mention it's name because to the sticky in this forum that has use of it).

He said that putting links to other websites in your pages and posts 'drains the juice' from your website and you shouldn't do it.

I'm a very new site owner and have been trying to research links, backlinks, pingbacks, trackbacks, etc but nowhere could I find any opinion about whether linking to outside (high authority in your field) sites from your own is good or bad.

I've only used out-links as a Reference on some pages to add authority and credibility to articles I've written for a website that I'm promoting as a 'reliable information' website.

Does anyone have an opinion?

Thanks in advance.

Make outlinks to sites that are related to your website "do follow"
Make outlinks that don't relate to your website "no follow"

you can check on google how to do that easily

    Stick with this model.

    1. You should always create content for your users first and foremost, with little to no regard to what any search engine thinks; and

    2. It is rumored, and I have seen evidence to validate this idea, that Google will lift or lower the value of your page, according to the quality of the pages to which you link out.

The theory on this is that if you link to authority pages, you are informing Google that your page should also be viewed as an authority page, because you are focused on quality above all other factors.

p.s. I would not worry about link juice bleeding too much, if at all.

Gonna have to say X3 here. We routinely link to outbound authority sites and it has worked great for us. This post above is perfectly said.
