Something I didn't realize when buying Kaspersky

Bought the three license downloadable version of Kaspersky. About a month later I bought a new laptop and desktop. When I contacted support to ask how to download my remaining two licenses onto the new computers I was told the download was only good for 14 days and I would now need to purchase a backup disk from them. Don't know if I missed this info when I bought or if it's not explained but I am so bummed right now.

If this is accurate (and I'm not disputing what you say ), this is terrible customer service; in fact it's a terrible policy. Period.

If I was in your position, I would also have assumed that your purchase covers three downloads for the duration you bought the license.

Even Microsoft works with its customers better than that. Recently the motherboard failed on my husband's computer; he replaced it and Microsoft, Adobe and other big names worked with him to reinstall software he had originally purchased 3 and 4 years go.

This is the email they sent in answer to my request. I'm not including my response to them; it's not fit for reprint! The really irritating thing is that I agonized for some time between their product and several other companies. Guess I chose wrong.

I suggest you to use AVAST free version.... There is nothing fancy in Kaspersky... Trust me.... All you get is security and that's what avast does too... I am using avast for around 4 years with no problems at all....

Download their home edition for free and enjoy it for life....

    Hope this helps.....

there is.. kaspersky is by far the best AV out there..

i used to be extremely blackhat, writing viruses, botnets, all that stuff.. not even norton, etc could identify my file as a virus.. none of the AVs could do that except kaspersky.. of course i found a way to get round kaspersky as well eventually.

You can download the trial version from Kaspersky's website and first install the trial license. Then, you can put your activation code in to the software.

To put activation code, you can click on the software you already installed and click on manage license at the bottom right hand corner, then click on your license number. You will see your activation code over there.

You can do this even though the code has been used once?

Katie, this is a canned response email sent by a service rep who did not take the time to understand what you were actually asking.

This is exactly right. Install the trial, then activate it with your license number.

Yes. The code can be used on up to three computers. The license is then tied to the computer.

I recently had to replace a hard drive, and in the process I lost the contents of the old disk. The Kaspersky servers recognized the license key and even served up the correct number of days remaining in the license period.

great idea k_a_babji... If you have purchased multiple licences for the same key... Yes it should work then.......

    All the best......

There's plenty of free ones like Avast and AVG that just as good as Kaspersky... The only difference is you pay for Kaspersky which gives it a higher preceived value (Which means squat when it comes to keeping your PC safe!).
