Why not just leave the US

Because in the SOPA law there will be inclusions for just such a thing. Most of the torrent sites and file sharing sites are already hosted overseas therefore the US will ban all of those sites from being view-able here in the states. I assume that they would do the same thing to google.
I wouldn't worry too much about the whole thing. If Obama lets this go through there isn't a chance in hell he will be re-elected. He isn't going to let that happen.

Because if the sopa bill goes through you will see in no time at all other countries like the UK,France,Germany doing the same.
      Where would you go then.

I could see France being in agreement with such a law. It reminds me of what I have learnt about their HADOPI law.

This law goes overboard in some ways but as web marketers, affiliates and webmasters there would be more money to make if something like this were to pass. I can tell you from my own experience (I have been an online marketer since 1998) I have had people steal entire websites from me and there really wasn't anything I could do about it because they weren't on US soil.

The last entire site I had stolen was just a year or so ago and the guy that stole it was from Vietnam. I sent a DMCA notice to the host. Site is down for a few days and then a few days later it was back online uploaded to another host. I sent another DMCA, but from that point forward it was just rinse and repeat until I got tired of spending 10-15 hours every week researching hosts and sending DMCAs. I eventually just resigned myself to the fact he is gonna steal whatever he wants of mine and there is nothing I can do about it. He did graciously offer to quit stealing my stuff via emil if I would wire him 1000 USDs a few months later. I declined. On the affiliate side I can tell you things use to be much easier to sell vs nowadays when you turn a customer on to something he does a search before he/she will buy it to see if it is available "free" from a file sharing service/torrent.

I'm sure the EU is looking long and hard at this - even if it fails to get on the books in the US.

There was plenty of education about this bill online yesterday - it is shocking to see this clueless a post from a marketer who should have been taking advantage of all the information offered yesterday. It's embarrassing to see a post as clueless as this one online today.

Yesterday's protest reached hundreds of millions of people and caused one of, if not the largest, public reactions ever seen in this country. Did that happen because it would be a negligible law? Do you really think if that's all there is to it, that the top execs at these companies would have been too stupid to know that?

There is an official SOPA thread in the forum. Maybe a mod will do you a favor and remove this highly uniformed silliness before too many people see it.

I am so disgusted by the fact that they keep talking about how this would stop job losses in the music and film industry! The music and film industry have both adapted to the loss of profit from the internet and are still doing ok. Nobody seems to be thinking about how many jobs will be lost in the USA when companies like Google, Ebay, Amazon, Yahoo, etc. have to shut down because this law gets passed.
It will result in hundreds of thousands of unemployed people.
The government could care less because the music and movie industries are lining their pockets to pass this law.
It just makes me sick to my stomach.

And what about all their dot com websites which are registered in the US, and to which the FTC (and maybe other regulatory agencies) can get access, and can take offline, as they did last year with all those poker sites belonging to foreign companies and hosted outside the US?
