A good model to sell ebooks on a website?

Hello everyone,

I have created an ebook that I want to sell on a website of my own. I am a pretty good web developer but I have no experience in selling through a website. I am selling a couple of books on Amazon for the kindle but they wont allow me to upload this one because it's a foreign language book.

Does anyone know if there is a good model to use when selling ebooks? I am thinking about things such as download methods (e.g, do I use a standard link for all customers) & payment processing. Are there any book available on the subject?

Thanks.

Not sure what your problem is..is it technical eg. for the download? Or how to get traffic?

On the technical side i myself use downloadguard which takes all the work and i use it in conjunction with paypal or clickbank.

On the traffic side....you could try social marketing, becoming a clickbank vendor, SEO etc..

Hi Cezalinho. Although you could use a standard link for all customers, this is not the best option for 2 reasons:
    1. Someone that knows what he is doing can figure out the download page containing the standard link and get your ebook for free.
    2. As a result of 1. above, your link could be shared on sharing sites and downloaded by tons of people, resulting in lost sales for you.
Although it is true that you should not concentrate your attention on people that would want to download your product for free, at the same time you want to make it secure to a good extent. Some ways you can do this include:
    1. Using DL Guard as the poster above suggested.
    2. Creating a password protected directory on your website and uploading your product here. Upon payment, you would provide your customer with a password which would be good for some time, after which it would expire.
    3. You can also use other third parties to securely host your ebook such as Clickbank, RAP, E-junkie, Ebookbay, Paydotcom and UploadnSell. These sites will also handle the payment processing for you and either send you a check or pay you through Paypal.

There are some free ebooks on Amazon for the Kindle about self publishing. Don't know if these books talk about payment processing and securing your download pages but you could read them and find out. (Note that you don't need to have a kindle to read them. You can read them through the Kindle Cloud Reader or Kindle for PC/Mac).

Let me know if you have any other questions. All the best with your eBook sales.

You can sell your ebook on Tradebit.com or Payloadz.com. Just launch your own website with a good sales page, and promote it like you would promote anything else online. What niche are you in?
