    Hey arranrice,

Wishlist Member is an awesome piece of software....its a wordpress plugin and handles all the membership side of things.

Optimize press is a nice theme to use to design a membership site.

You'll need both....but they are a worthwhile investment.

    Regards

    Chris

This is a very broad question you ask.
What kind of membership site do you want to make
      1) Do you want free members
      2) Do you want paid members
      3) Do you want to drip feed content
      4) Do you want different membership levels
      5) Do you want members to be affiliates
      6) Do you want
      7) Are using wordpress of HTML
      8) Do you ant fixed term memberships
      9) Whats your budget
      10) What do you want to use as a payment processor
      11) Do you want to integrate with an autoresponder
      Etc Etc Etc

There are lots and lots of membership systems, scripts, themes and HTML builders that will do anything you want them to.

      Suggested products needed
      1. Hostgator for Hosting
      2. Wordpress platform (free)
      3. OptimizePress theme ($97)
      4. Aweber for autoresponder (monthly fee)
      5. S2Member for membership (free)
      6. Paypal for payment processing (free to set up)
      7. AmazonS3 for Video Hosting (very cheap for Video Hosting and streaming)
      8. Flow Player for video playing (free plugin)

These are the things you would need to get going

I use S2Member. It's a free wordpress plug in and there are videos on how to set it up on Youtube.

    My suggestion:

    Create a free membership site

Give Them Nothing But The Best

Let Them Know About Your Premium Membership site that gives even better content at an affordable price (under $30 a month)

I heard about CustomerHub - which integrates directly into Infusionsoft, and has just been acquired by them too. Haven't checked it out yet myself though -- Sean

You should read the report in Jenny's signature line. Though it's about a PLR site it also covers the basics of setting up a membership site.

yeah im looking through plugins now to see whats out there.. i know i need one that handles paid member on a recurring basis. Every 30 days they need to be charged and if they dont pay it needs to automatically block them from paid content. Ive seen some that say they handle this but not sure how many out there will actually block people if they dont pay. From what i read wp-member blocks them out and its only $30. But i dunno if people recommend it.

aMember seems cool but theres no detailed info

I suggest s2member. even if it is a free one it does almost all the functions what one needs to run a standard membership with less glitches.

Otherwise the best are Wishlist & DAP. I have many of my students and clients using and works well.

I am looking to supply my affiliates with the opt in leads that they generate from our squeeze page (prior to our sales page). Anyone know of a system that does this?

Let me just back-up what Suzanne said - that "all in one thread" will answer MANY ir not all of your questions.

As for the best software to use, that will depend on your technical level and current skills. I'm guessing not to advanced otherwise you probably would be asking such a question -

However; Amember, is a great script, but not good for newbies.

Profits Theme and the other WordPress "membership site plugins / options" are god for those that are familiar with Wordpress but a nightmare for those that are not.

Easy Member pro is a great all-round membership site that is very easy to use once set up, probably the easiest.

However, when it comes to downright marketing savvy, "LFM Membership software" is the best, but requires solid skills to really get the most out of it.

      Paul Barrs

PS. And in case you were wondering... my "opinions" only come from my experiences in actually TRYING OUT all the of these.

My last membership site was built using Joomla and the AEC plug-in - which I found did everything I wanted. Joomla is open source, and there is a new version just out. The plug-in used to be free, but the I gather they now charge for it.

One thing I would recommend it that you DON'T use PayPal as your payment processor. This is because you cannot have more than one PayPal account, so if you should decide to sell the site later on, your members will have to sign-up again with the new owner - and most won't bother. I found this out the hard way! Better to use a 3rd party processor like 2checkout.com; that way, you can simply change the details over to the new owner when you sell the site.
