Just curious - is this legally problematic:
microsoft.myaffiliatesite.com ?

I have not seen any case holding a subdomain violates trademark laws applied to domains.

However, that does not mean there is no risk. Partly, it means a lack of litigation on the issue.

For example: microsoft.word.com might be a problem.

Trademark issues are about context and potential customer confusion. The more famous the trademark you are using, like Microsoft, the bigger the risk.

An interesting issue to consider about this is that since a UDRP filing cannot be made for a subdomain, and litigation would involve a full-blown trademark lawsuit.

Given Microsoft's lawsuit against the "magic bullet" system I would be wary.
