new to IM? here's a quick tip...

If you'd like to become better at internet marketing following these steps could help:

#1: pick ONE teacher and follow them.
#2: pick ONE task for each day and just do that ONE task.
#3: doing the above things by reaching your "mile stones" will give you results faster which will keep your fire burning.

I wish someone told me this years ago...

Those are great tips. Generally speaking, staying focused is extremely important, whether it is with a particular teacher or particular method. You just need to make sure you stick to something long enough so that you can see results from it. Two different teachers or guides could say two completely contrasting things, and yet neither could be classified as incorrect - the only method that won't work is the midpoint of the two contrasting methods. Thanks for sharing, Derek.

No problem man, thanks for your reply! Focus was always a problem for me, but what I've learned over the years is if you set small goals and complete them, before you know it, they turn into big accomplishments!

You know this question is one that comes up way to often. How to get a coach, who should coach me, ect.....
You do not have to actually know someone to coach you. Follow someones style you like. You will learn alot just from there material. Find out where there main support desk is, ask one question a week while flattering them, showing your work and how it emulates them.

You would be surprised at how many will help you. I remember struggling in 2005 or 2006, I also remember a noob who came on the scene and dominated it. His name was Mike. I used to ask him all kinds of questions, he was very humble and helped me alot.

      Good luck.

This is actually a very good idea for someone who doesn't have the funds to hire a teacher and really good ones often cost a pretty penny. In the very beginning, I learned a lot by watching successful people and reverse engineering what they do. Even if you don't get everything right, you'll still get much better results than just winging it blind. Good point.

A real mentor can be a person who has experienced the things himself. What I mean to say that if you want to become an entrepreneur, follow them. If you want to become an astronomer follow the foot prints of a successful astronomer.

Solid advice. Just make sure the teachers people pick actually know what they're talking about. Haha.

I'm all about having smaller "milestones." I used to have a problem not starting tasks because they seemed overwhelming. Once I broke down the large task into small digestible chunks, things seemed much easier. You also feel a better sense of progress when checking small items off your to-do list, which just gives you that much more motivation to keep going.

  • I do not know about the teacher part, the new internet marketers could get taught all wrong.. I would rather tell them to go with experience, take action and if you fail, look at your mistakes and learn by them.

I agree with the milestone part, it really keeps you going when you reach a personal goal, even if it is not a big goal.

    Great advice Derek

Teacher is very necessary if you are into learning... All people are not self motivated so there is a chance they move away from the track in very middle or they fed up easily if they don't know their goals and 99% of newbies don't really have a goal....

They just step in with a charm to rake in 100's of dollars per day which marketers around told them but they know the ground realities when they are in the game play.

So a teacher and to follow a teacher's way is really a great tip...

Keep up the good work and keep sharing such useful advice's for us.....

    All the best

you can PM me if you are looking for a teacher, but there are many here who do teach too, I guess it's just good to talk to those of us who do teaching and choose the one you vibe with the most.

I just watched a Frank Kern webinar reiterate this stuff and it is really where I'm trying to steer my stuff this year. So far I'm regularly working with clients who pay me $497 per month but I'd like to get that up to $5,000-$10,000 that way I don't have to work with dozens of clients but instead just a smaller group. I'm actually to the point where I care more about free time than the money, it's weird at first, but it's a good feeling.

generally in my opinion finding someone who is where you want to be and getting them to teach you saves you MASSIVE time and HEADACHES and MONEY!

I love that you said, "with blinders on" because that is exactly what it takes with all the distractions today...

thank you very much. I was being coached by some business owners locally and they kept me motivated which was BY FAR the most important thing. Even the biggest marketers have their coaches and I think it's good to always have a coach. If I'm not mistaken Celine Dion has a singing coach?!! Anthoney Robbins has his coach Jay Abraham and so on and so forth. I will always be mentoring under someone until I die.

I think I was part of the same webinar. At the end did he offer coaching for $13,000? I was tempted to buy it but couldn't justify such expensive coaching to myself at this time. There is still so much I can teach myself. If it was just 2-3k then I probably would have just done it. 13k is a lot though.

I still might try to get a ticket to his seminar in San Diego this summer though. Could be some great networking going on there. Frank Kern's one of my favorite guys to watch and learn from.

A good product is something of value that you can offer others, a product or a service. Everyone has value to give, sometimes you have to dig deep, but it's there! Even if you are a "new person" or not, YOU HAVE VALUE TO OFFER!

Yes, I absolutely love how Frank is, yes, like you I was tempted to sign up but the nagging thought in the back of my head was "YOU ALREADY KNOW TO USE THAT MONEY FOR ADVERTISING" and I'm glad I chose that route because I've got several new clients instead. However when I pass the 15k monthly barrier, I may just take him up on it!

Mutual accountability. We'll both be doing so well by this time next year that signing up for Frank's coaching won't be a problem. See you there!

what is everybody's take on affiliate marketing through click bank?

what is the best way to get results with clickbank offers?

I haven't had any success so I am trying to figure out what it is that I need to do or change.

The best way is to look through the wso's and write down the points that make you feel strongly to "buy" This can really help you make sales when you start to put together your message.

Make sure you have something of great value to sell, don't just throw up a wso without offering value or you'll have everyone refund...

the war room is a great place to find people to do deals with.

This is one of the most ridiculous statements I've heard in a long time. Sorry, I know that's harsh, but I stand by my statement.

      No one is honest.???? Bull!

There are a lot of fine, very successful people out there who are willing to teach you what they know. True, you'll pay for it. But they're at the top of their game AND also have a lot of integrity and passion for what they do. It's our job to find them.

In spite of our electronically connected age, I think we all feel very disconnected and lonely. Which means we not only feel a need to learn from someone who's successful doing what we want to do, but also is someone with integrity -- someone we can relate to and respect, who's likeable.

I have a small circle of people I learn from who are at the top of their game AND also have a lot of integrity and a lot of passion for what they do. My current mentor is a fabulous lady. She epitomizes what I think a woman in business should be. I want to be like her when I grow up! She's passionate about what she does and truly cares for each client she has. I have a huge respect for her, both personally and professionally.

I know how discouraging it is when nobody seems to have integrity and is just out for your money. (Believe me I know!) But I firmly believe that there MUST be people out there who have passion and integrity in their business -- and who really care about their customers and clients. Plain logic tells you that NOT EVERYONE is shady or just plain out for themselves.

The trick is to stick it out until you find those people. And then put your blinders on and listen ONLY to them -- at least until you're making some money.

I've waded through all of the hype and junk and come up with a small circle of people that I listen to/buy from consistently. They've been around for quite a long time and are worth their weight in gold for the time and headaches they save me in NOT searching for someone else! They're all experts in their fields and highly successful, well worth listening to.

I know how discouraging it can be sometimes. But hang in there and keep looking until you find those people worth listening to/buying from. If you haven't found them yet, that just tells you that you're looking in the wrong place. Keep looking!

      Hope that helps!

Whoa now, everybody is entitled to their own opinion. I was simply making this statement because thats how it is out there. Not all of them are dishonest but there are some that are. And when you are just started off that is what it is going to seem like, because you are new and trying out every little thing that comes out, and they don't work. For instance the push button software that doesn't make out to what it says it will. I fell for those. And any one who just starts off will have trouble finding that honest teacher or someone who is actually willing and like to see others succeed as well.

I have found a mentor/teacher and anyone who ask me for help, I will do my best to lead them in them the right direction just like it has been done for me. I've been blessed to say the least so I really can't complain.

Thanks for the response though. I am also open for discussing. I like learning how others think and learning new things as well.

This is a much more accurate and honest statement.

Yes, my response was pretty strongly worded. But I wasn't really angry. I was merely highlighting your statement and calling you on it. I DID realize it came from frustration more than anything.

I've been a very frustrated Warrior, just like every other Warrior here. So I DO understand your frustration.

But there's too much of a "poor me" attitude around here sometimes. We ALL need to vent and I have no problem with that at all. Venting can be good for the soul. But if you start nurturing a "woe is me", "I can't afford it", "Everyone's a scammer out to rip me off" attitude, you are in for a world of hurt. Mindset plays a HUGE role in our success.

There's a lot of good information here on the WF and elsewhere. I really wish there was an A-B-C, 1-2-3 plan out there that worked for EVERYONE. But everyone is unique and has to walk their own journey. You have to find your own niche and target market, then decide what kind of IM business you want. It's completely unique to you and sometimes that journey takes longer than others. (Deciding on a niche, for example, is NOT always simple or fast.)

But once you've made some basic decisions , the mechanics ARE pretty simple. After you've chosen a niche and business model, there are people out there already successful doing what you want to do. It's a matter of finding them and then studying them.

It can be so difficult when you feel like you're hitting brick wall after brick wall. (I KNOW how that feels!) But there ARE good people out there who give more value than they charge for. Your job is to find them and learn from them. It's a process and journey for sure though! (Hint: it's going to cost more than $37 or $27. People expecting to learn how to make a million dollars online from a $37 e-book have a lottery mentality, not a business mentality.)

Venting aside, please don't paint everyone with the same brush. It doesn't contribute to the WF as a whole and it especially doesn't help the newbies.

The best method to find a mentor is not only that person has to be succesful so that we can follow their lead, but each student will have different likes and tastes , and each of us might connect to a style we like and that is as important as the mentor's success record.

    Good luck

I think because their are so many ideas and tips and things to do, people really just jump from task to task. I just read a book about the founder of chick-fil-a and he had to stick with his first restaurant for years before he became successful. The problem is we live in a microwave society were people want to see results instantly.

Pick a task and see it through. Multitasking is overrated.

I couldn't agree more. The "I want it now" "drive through marriage" mentality is killing productivity and results!

guys like kern and co get you to buy their products, while they are good, and I have a few the real secrets are in how they sell them to you. So study that and their emails. Say no more!

Exactly- For example Kern has Facebook ads running that lead to an opt-in for a video series, and the video series is good... whatever. The real education is going through the funnel and see how he's doing it, and the main thing he's doing is adding subscribers to this list.

Yes, while you can reverse engineer and I do, which is awesome by the way! There are some mindsets and things that you cannot reverse engineer and when you have the extra funds to purchase coaching from someone like Kern, I'd go for it!

Yes, the most important is finding a mentor that you pay to teach you how to be where they are. If you pay them you'll take it more seriously and they will help steer you in the right direction on nearly a daily basis like launching a smart bomb, the coach will guide and slightly correct your aim thousands and thousands of times so you don't miss your target!

This is exactly right! What's good to note as well is that even the "gurus" have their mentors! I have decided that I'll always have mentors that I'm paying for life!

SO SO TRUE! I'll just come out and say it, EXECUTION is the HARDEST thing for me because I've got so many ideas that I want to do and how I FORCE myself to do stuff for example to make a product, I'll pre-launch it to my list before I even start it, after doing that, I KNOW I HAVE TO MAKE THE PRODUCT AND NOW I'VE GOT A TIME FRAME OR I PISS OFF MY WHOLE LIST!

Now, you don't have to do that and it's EXTREME but that was the extreme I had to go to force myself to TAKE ACTION.

You get what you pay for... Plus if you pay for one, psychologically you'll take it more seriously and the more you pay the stronger the motivation as long as your teacher can really deliver the goods! Also remember however, that your teacher can only teach you the right information, MOST of the responsibility is on YOU TO DO THE WORK "CONSISTENTLY"

Yes, most of the big gurus are only good at one or two things and don't really know how to do anything else very well. Some of them have admitted to not be able to make a webpage to save their life! The difference between them and people who aren't as successful is how few things they focus on and how much work they put into those few things consistently while outsourcing everything else. Basically, STICK WITH YOUR STRENGTHS AND OUTSOURCE THE REST!

While very true, we gotta be careful. If someone goes right now and tries to emulate Kern, they probably will tank miserably because there is always more than what you can see at the surface that's making what he's doing work! The best thing to do is to mentor under him and learn the "behind the scenes" stuff, which when you see it, you'll be like, "oh, I didn't even think of that!"

When I got the video black box and he went through some of his videos, I realized I NEVER would have been able to "reverse engineer" what he was doing because I didn't even have the correct mindset! I know this kind of goes against what I said earlier by reverse engineering, but if you can't afford $12k to join his mentoring program, then reverse engineering is your next best bet...

Clarity is a HUGE part of IM success.

IM is actually pretty simple: you can sell only one of two things:

        1. Products
        2. Services

        That's it!

And selling products or services online happens in the same basic way for everyone, no matter what they're selling:

        Traffic > Opt-in page > Autoresponder series (or e-zine) > Sales page

That's it! It's just that simple. (We IMers tend to overcomplicate things.)

But no matter what your niche is, or whether you're selling a product or a service, do you know what your business model is?

A business model is the framework or skeleton of your business. Essentially there are three types of online business models:

        1. Membership-based model

A membership-based business model allows you to build a community of people (your members) who are as passionate about your subject as you are. Your membership fees can be monthly or annual, but either way, you're building recurring, passive income.

There are a lot of resources and information out there to help you build a membership-based business if you're interested in doing this.

        2. Product-based model

Selling products allows you to maximize your time and effort by selling items over and over again. This can be hard goods or it can be information products. Information marketing is it's own business model under the product-based model. Information marketing allows you to take your brain to the bank by creating a product ONCE based on what you know and selling it over and over again.

I see someone has already recommended affiliate marketing. You can choose to market either products or services as an affiliate.

        3. Service-based model

Selling services can be great for 1) generating quick cash (as in the case of article writing or video producing) and 2) establishing your expertise and getting testimonials.

However, in the long run, your goal should be to offer services at a PREMIUM. The biggest advantage of IM is LEVERAGE. You're able to leverage your time, money and expertise exponentially online. We all have just 24 hours each day. Time to get ruthless about what you expect for those hours you spend in IM each day. Expect more of yourself and more from your business friends, clients, partners, etc.

What results are you getting for those hours you spend online each day? Ultimately, your services should be at the bottom of your funnel and cost the most since they involve your time and personal attention. (We all have a limited amount of time each day.)

The fun (and confusion) comes in with all of the endless mix-and-match possibilities of the above models. If you're just starting or still struggling to make money, keep it simple:

        Pick just ONE!

        1. Pick ONE niche. (Something you're interested in and know something about.)

        2. Pick ONE target market for your product or service. (Who will buy what you're offering? The more specific you are, the more you narrow it down, the more successful you'll be.)

        3. Pick ONE business model.

Now that you're clear about what business you're in, FOCUS! (And stop buying any info not related to your niche and target market, period!)

        F -- Follow
        O -- One
        C -- Course
        U -- Until
        S -- Successful

And remember: build a list, Build a List, BUILD A LIST!

In IM, it's easy to put the cart before the horse. Take a deep breath, step back and consider what type of business you're REALLY want. Don't worry about getting traffic or buying that expensive traffic product until you know 1) what your business model is, 2) what niche you're in and 3) WHO your target market is!

Successful business people will tell you that MARKETING is more than half the effort that's needed for success anyway. So pick a niche, target market and business model. Then spend most of your time and effort marketing it.

If you DON'T have a solid plan or system, THAT'S when it's hard. A good system will shave YEARS (and save you big $$$) off of your learning curve

That's why I recommend investing in at least one good, comprehensive IM course (or mentor who will give you such a system) instead of jumping from one $37 e-book to the next. A lot of people here complain about not being able to make any money. But neither are they willing to invest in their business. (Buying a random bunch of $37 e-books doesn't count.)

The best thing I ever did was invest in a comprehensive IM course aimed at REAL business owners, not just other IM wannabes. Yes it was $1500. (Now it's only $997. :p) But it was truly some of the best A-Z IM info I ever bought. Everything else I've learned (from the $37 e-books) since has simply been plugged into this system.

Get a solid plan or system and then work the plan!

        Hope this helps!

Simple and direct to the point, this tips are a must-follow. Looking for a teacher is worth to be number one. Someone who can lead you to the right direction, someone who knows what will work in the right field.

Staying focus on one task is a hard thing to do, however if you do this daily, you'll get used to it.

no problem. One of the best things to do is to pick ONE person to follow, and after you VERIFY that they get the results you want, get them to teach you. Staying off people's lists will get rid of the paralyzing information overload and shiney object syndrome.

Picture that you are in prison and that most people aren't allowed internet, but you did good behavior so they are letting you login, but you are only allowed to get emails from one mentor, which would you choose? The first person that came to mind is the only one you should follow.

Then create a NEW email account and only join that person's list.

think of it like this, the more campaigns and methods you do, the less sucessful they will each be, most likely unsuccessful. Even the "gurus" are only good and specialize at one or two things. Most of them don't know how to do half the stuff that some people on here know and because they learned that they should not try to specialize in everything, they got massive results in the one or two things they focused on.

I do think it's important to follow several teachers though, and not just one. But yes, sticking to the plan and getting something done on it every day is so important. It keeps you motivated.

Follow ONE teacher at a time, will you have two different karate teachers at the same time? What about two different trainers at the gym?

What you do is work with the one that you can afford now. Once you have learned everything you can from him and have achieved those results, find another mentor who can help you get evern further in your business...

You talk to people and work with someone that you like and trust, if you want to talk to me you can PM me and we can set up a time as well. Either way there are many people on here who can help you.

In the recent years, we could see more and more new minds in the field of internet marketing. But most of them end up with failure in half their way. There is a guide to succeed in internet marketing which tells us that we should have only one client(best one) and do only one job daily thereby we can increase our number of jobs by increasing the speed and effectiveness.

Good point Warrich, a lot of us look to as the internet as a place where we can just pick money off trees!

I laugh at that thought now. You have to treat it like any other business!
