Affiliate Marketing Advice

Hello, for the last couple of months I've been studying a lot Internet Marketing and I'm thinking about starting as a affiliate to promote other people's products as a start and a test for the skills I have acquired.

"The money making online" business got recommended to me by a friend making a great amount of money and living the luxurious life from his online income. He gave me most of the courses that he bought over the years and as I started looking into the courses I actually enjoy it.

The courses studied so far:

-AffiliateDotCom by Chris Farrell and Mike Filsaime
-List Control and Mass Control 2.0 by Frank Kern

I have 2 questions for my fellow brothers in the IM community:

1-I just started with Underground Training Lab by Jeff Johnson. I noticed that the course is from 2009 and some of the content or the links given are dead and some aren't working anymore. He actually uses Myspace some of the time to promote his products which maybe an outdated technique in our current time. Is the course still relevant to this day ? Will I actually benefit from it and apply the techniques in my Affiliate Marketing journey ?

2-I noticed that most the programs focus on marketing your own product. Is there really a big difference in the strategy or tactic between Marketing your own product or marketing others'. IE:List Building.

Thank You. Any input is appreciated.

sorry i cannot comment on the materials. i've not read the materials.

but in general, yes you can still apply some of the methods. at least the principals. probably need to do lot of tweaking. as for as i know, myspace is not that attractive anymore. probably you want to study some materials on facebook.

marketing your own products definately have more advantages. however it is not that easy to come out with a good product. so for new comers, it will be better to start with other people products. in term of marketing strategy, i dont think there are much differences. by the way, you can still build your own list eventhough you are selling other people products.

    Nathan,

    Welcome aboard!

Some of the general principles of IM will still apply so no harm done there.

The principles of marketing your own product and that of others are similar and I do encourage you to build a list.

My recommendation is to take action.....you have studied three courses (Two complete and ploughing through another) so now its time to take the plunge.

I would recommend you focus on developing a site in a niche that interests you.

Give away something of value in return for them joining your list.

Give them amazing value and treat them like people.

It is an oversimplified version of what you need to do...

But feel free to ask any more specific questions.

    Kind regards

    Chris

    1. Marketing using myspace certainly out of date. You could change it to fb ads tho.
    2. If you have your own products. You will have your own name on it right? You will have your own brand and you have to manage good name with it. So its really big difference between marketing yours or another ppl products.

Well this is how it works ! All training courses (well most of them ) containing affiliate links , that's how author make middle end money from it ! From my experience I would get only a drop or two of golden information from one wso or book or course , rest is all the same ! I have no regrets because even those golden drops of information I've got worth 10=15 $ buck you paying for those WSO's . After 4 month of buying them I have actually learned everything I need to START! Then stop reading and get to work ! Learn word press , get hosting from hostagator , get your self a market samurai and start building websites , and remember if they not in top 10 they are useless , you have to be on top to get traffic/money . Hope this helps !

I haven't taken the courses you have mentioned so I can't speak about them, but just remember not to spend too much money on such stuff. Of course, it is essential to have base knowledge from which you can earn money online, but there are a lot of things people sell for money that with enough effort, you can find out for free (specially from older training manuals etc).

As wfhblueprints has suggested, choose a niche you are interested in and develop a cool site. Once you get recurring traffic, you just need to find a product on Digital Products Retailer: Affiliate Program & Sell Online - ClickBank that your traffic demographic would purchase and sell it to them.

You'll learn everything you need to know along the way I'm certain.

As others have already said, time to get started! There is a real danger of spending all your time learning (which is good up to a point) but none of it doing. You know the basics, so pick a niche & product, set up a simple site, and get started. Build your list, and learn as you go along - it's the best way.

    Nathan...

You did the "right thing" by asking around 1st before getting starting. Everyone says "take action now"! But what action do you take?

I feel you pain brother! It's called, "Information Overload!"

If I were you, I'd forget about what you're going to market until I started to learn to master getting targeted traffic!

Conventional wisdom says throw up a niche blog review site and make $$$ per month. Do this every month and pretty soon you have a "Blog Empire" with little cash machines all over the internet.

My experience says it doesn't quite work that way.

There is a limit to SEO and a limit to what you can do with niche sites. Also, if you buy hosting it can eat into your profits.

I would recommend getting some coaching on how to drive paid traffic. EVERYTHING STARTS WITH TARGETED, SCALEABLE TRAFFIC. If you can not target and scale your traffic, then you're wasting your time.

If you rely on SEO alone, you will not be able to scale up your traffic unless you use article marketing, backlinks, social media (FB) and a host of other extremely time consuming tactics.

I would say get some coaching and learn how to drive paid traffic. (Targeted Traffic + High Conversions == Nice Pay Day) This can be from Affiliate marketing or your own products. It doesn't matter what you sell if you have lots of targeted traffic and you know how to convert them.

I would prefer a COACHING FORUM over an individual so that you can ask lots of questions and you can learn from many others. Also, you don't have to fork over $$$ to an individual who may or may not have your best interest in mind.

      In a word... NO!

Amazon is dropping affiliates like crazy w/o any warning due to FTC and State Tax generation laws.

Quite simply States are going broke and they need to raise taxes. There is a lot money floating around the internet and everyone wants their bite of the apple.

Too many laws are running US companies off-shore any so states are trying to get money from You and Me.

Amazon was NEVER a good place to earn affiliate income.

      Consider this:

If you earn 4% ( I don't know because I don't promote them) that means only $4 for every $100 you sell.

Now you're going to need to drive targeted. Where are you going to get that traffic? How much are you going to pay for clicks?

If you use the conventional methods of building a blog and using SEO and backlinks, plus article marketing, you could easily get burnt out and it will take forever to see any real income. Also, don't forget you have to pay for hosting your blog unless you use a free blog, but you can't install the plugins on free blogs to get a good rank in google (don't bother with free blogs).

So... short answer, you're going to need to use paid traffic to send to your hosted blog.

Now you need to track all your expenses.

To use google adwords you're going to need to become a google expert. Not recommended for newbies. You could burn thru $$$$ on google adwords in a day and still get $0 conversions.

You could try 7search($$$ or CPV (trafficvance $$$$).

How much traffic do you need to drive to your Amazon offer to be profitable?

Most traffic converts at about 2%. I would adjust this to 1% for Amazon because people are easily distracted and leave. Also, Amazon has only "session cookies" which means that as soon as they close the browser the cookie expires and you don't get paid.

So, at 1% conversion, you get 1 sale per 100 visitors.

So, that means you get $4 per 100 visitors, less your expenses so, around $0.75 profit per 100 visitors.

Now that means you need 100 purchases per month, but your conversion rate is 1%, so you need 10000 (visits/mo.)*0.01*0.75 = $75/mo.

Is that this business model you want? Needing to drive 10K/mo.?

      For just $75/mo. profit?

I would take that 10K/mo. visits and use it on CPA zip submits, using prosper202 to track and rotate offers.

Bottom line... Get some coaching on traffic generation and forget about Amazon.

I'ts best to start off building a list and promoting affiliate products. Then when you have sufficient funds look at developing a product of your own.

Your aim should ultimately be to have your own product with affiliates and JV partners promoting for you, as this will enable you to build your list much faster and generate a nice autopilot income

myspace marketing still works. All social marketing still works, I have found it gets me people to network too. I never try to blast any social platform with affiliate links and such, but I will use fan pages ect and posts to drop tidbits of information. Just small things to peak an interest here and there.

Have I found a way to get rich on social media. No and don't think I ever will unless I inherit FB or MS which isnt going to happen.
