Your favorite video recording software

Hello all,

Wanted to make some "how-to"/"instruction" videos to put on YouTube. Not familiar with the types of video software out there - so - decided to come here and ask. Personally, I like the software that allows one to turn their cursor into a yellow circle (for emphasis).

Is there anything out there that is simple, easy to use and -er -um cost-effective?

TIA

Camtasia is the main one that people use, but it's not the cheapest.

The cheap or free alternatives are:
    Screencast-o-omatic
    Jing
    camstudio

Those three will do the job, camtasia just has more features when it comes to editing.

  • We use Camtasia as well It's the screen recording software most recommended by professionals. (but you won't find it in the free and cost effective section of the web).

Camstudio hands down. Handles all the goods, and produces high quality videos.

Camtasia, the only thing I don't like about it is you have to convert your video for youtube or s3mediavault that sucks, just one extra step, so if you make a video on how not to have to do that let me know.

I use Fraps for gaming footage. If I can't use Fraps, then I use Camtasia.

By far the best is Camtasia you can produce your Video for Youtube no problem. A Free alternative is Jing but you can only save as an SWF file.
Jing Pro is only $14.99 a year so cheap, but you can only do up to 15 minutes so you may have to split your Videos up.
Another free alternative is screenr.com but again I think you are limited to 5 minutes of recording time.
Both Jing and screenr have hosting solutions as well. But you also use Vimeo and then embed them on your website

I have a completely free site that shows you how to do all this see sig below

Camtasia is the best and actually there is somethng called OEM version , so if you search camtasia studio OEM you can find the great software as a download for about $60 - $80... OEM is not a black area more a grey area where the we can get the software without the support...

all the others mentioned above will help you for sure , but camtasia is the biggest and best for sure

Camtasia is the best. Not the cheapest solution, but you won't regret it. But if you don't want to pay the money for Camtasia, I would choose Jing.

    I like Screencasomatic.

It's online. No Download. Easy to use and then save or upload to youtube.

and they have some new editing functions they just added. It's a really good option for making sales videos with Powerpoint slides.

I've heard that Camtasia is a bit hard to get into? Is there a steep learning curve?

Another for camtasia here, can be expensive but you can get a 30 day free trial. It is easy to use so you can easily get a lot of vids filmed in that time.
