What is Joomla! best used for?

There is a bit of a difference between Joomla and WordPress. The back-end is different and you would have to learn how to use it.

I would say that WP is easier to learn than Joomla and has more different plugins especially for IMs.

Joomla is good for static websites because once you install the right theme for the website it's not that difficult to finish it quickly. And I assume that websites running on Joomla are less likely to get hacked. But I'm not sure. It's what I think.

I would never use Joomla for a blog. It's more difficult than WP to manage it and make it look nice. At least I find it easier to manage WP than Joomla.

The biggest difference is that for using Joomla you have to know more about coding or the techy words (doesn't mean you would have to code something). WP is just EASY to manage.

Joomla is the same as WordPress. But WP is more easy to use or user friendly. WP has thousands of themes and plugins unlike Joomla. That's why most webmasters prefer WP than Joomla.

But if you know basic programming, Joomla may also works for you.

I would HIGHLY recommend (from experience) that you stay as far away from Joomla as possible. Especially if you're already using WordPress. I can't even tell you what a nightmare Joomla has been for me the few times I've used it.
Take the advice in this thread, stay away from Joomla, save yourself massive headaches and wasted time.

I love Joomla. There's so much more you can do with it than Wordpress.
You can have content sites, e-commerce sites, membership sites, forum sites, blogs (there's a Wordpress plugin for Joomla) or a combination of several (or all) of them all running on the same platform.

The back office is different, but no harder to master than Worpress IMHO.

Google and the other search engines LOVE Joomla sites, and they get indexed quickly. I've also heard it said that Joomal sites are perceived as being more professional than Wordpress sites if you are selling a product or service.

Another advantage is that so far (to the best of my knowledge) no one has come up with a bot or program to put spammy comments and backlinks on a Joomla site - unlike Wordpress.

I LOVE Joomla! its the only CMS that I use for all my sites, it might be confusing at the beginning but once you get the idea and how to link things then you are good to go, the ease of use and moving content makes it great! I didn't like wordpress ( just my opinion!) since it seems so unorganized for me but it has more plugins than Joomla...

You can find most of the plugins / extensions you need for Joomla and most of them are for free..the way Joomla backend is designed makes it more great

Joomla, Wordpress and Drupal are all Content Management Systems.

For Internet marketing, wordpress has more plugins.
It is easier to use, but less secure. It is quite disorganized and random at times.
Most people do not notice this because wordpress is all they know.

Joomla - is for more professional corporate sites.
It seems more difficult to use because it is more modular but structured.
There are tons of components similar to plugins... some very powerful.
Themes are available and some are just as nice as wordpress. Some of the most highly visited sites run on joomla. I personally feel Google loves Joomla, most of these sites are solid authority sites, not some spammy clickbank review site.
They are practically unbreakable in terms of spamming them.


Drupal - is a more secure CMS, more modular and more complicated than wordpress.
Themes are available but they are not as nice as wordpress or joomla.
Industrial websites use Drupal-- some government sites.

Joomla themes can be used for almost every type of website. There is no hard and fast rule for using its themes. For switching over process, you have to learn some things that are different in both.

I use WP for marketing websites and I use Joomla for content driven free sites that
volunteers manage. Joomla has a very good content management capability.

Ha ... I was wondering how this would read ... and I totally agree with most of the comments here ... Joomla/Drupal are complete nightmares to work with. They are virtually impossible if you dont have programming experience. But even more importantly ... because of the way they are designed they are not very search engine friendly. I have seen some Joomla sites I have worked with take MONTHS to updated in the SERPS (after updating title and meta information) whereas wordpress usually takes a week or two.

I have really nothing nice to way about Joomla/Drupal ... but if you just throw one onto a site to play with you will learn pretty quick how miserable they are.
