If I know sales and have passion along with enough funds to create instructional videos, besides much lower funds to do marketing, what would stop me from mimicking the success of the bigger guys?

Think about a product you see on TV every night. Besides a huge marketing budget, what are some things that would stop me from building a small business empire of my own. I see semi-decent products making people filthy rich. In fact, I think less than 10 % of all informational products are worth it, but the other 90 % still make tons of money. e.g. P90X

I would always start out in a market that you know, understand and you can bring knowledge of. You say you know Sales, why not create a product about "How to Sell" if you look at "The Silent Sales Machine" this was a huge success as it tapped into sales peoples wants and needs to increase sales by using under utilised techniques such as e mail marketing, fax marketing etc

Also always go very deep into the market that you are targeting, if you read the story of the guy who created "The Rich Jerk" his first major product success was a credit repair product. what he did was do it all for himself first and then found all the loop holes and proofed that it could be done and them taught other people how to do it

If you know sales, you can create success, but mimicking will just make you look like another broke "fake it till you make it" MLM er
