Advice To Sell My Program?

Hello all! First time poster - be gentle please

I have completed an information product which I am selling as a 7-week audio program in the self-improvement/motivational/tranformational niche.

I am relatively new at internet marketing so I'm still learning as I go, and frankly, figuring out the best methods to actually sell my program is a bit overwhelming to this newbie...

So, my question is what is/are the best way(s) to sell my program?

Here is what I have identified as ways to sell:

1. Joint Venture/Launch - I think doing a JV with someone that has a big list would be the smartest and fastest way to sell the program - especially because I have a virtually non-existant list! I just am not sure how to set up any sort of tracking information/percentages - I'm not a website builder/coder or anything so I really struggle where that stuff is concerned. Also, by launching it should I do something like a webinar?

2. Clickbank - I have my own credit card processing setup on my website and I am using 1shoppingcart. The advantage of Clickbank would be to have affiliates easily sell my product. My obstacle with CB is that I have no idea how to set it up. I read through their FAQs and my head almost exploded CB good? bad? worth it?

3. SEO - I've learned how to do a "dirty SEO" campaign but it really has not increased my visibility online. I will continue to work on SEO but I feel it will take longer than I hope to see any sales this way.

4. Social Media - I have setup Facebook and Twitter pages - I guess what I am wondering here is does social media pay off?

5. Google Adwords/Yahoo Adcenter - I get almost no clicks using Yahoo, and Google banned my site citing their "Misleading and Inaccurate Claims" policy. This, to date, was the only way traffic was getting to my site.

I am confident that I have created a great product that will sell in the self-help market - I just am a bit lost as to what to do next.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks very much!

- Michael

Hopefully someone can chip in with some answers to the Joint Venture or clickbank sections as I am interested in learning about these methods of selling also.

I do know however that with social media it's more of an addition to a campaign than something that will generate traffic by itself for a campain. Unless of course you are using facebook's ppc system but that's mega expensive.

In addition to this SEO can be completely revolutionary for a site's traffic but only if done effectively. If you don't know how to do it yourself it's more effective to pay someone to carry out the SEO for you. As it will takes months - years to figure out how to execute proper SEO on a site by yourself.

Congratulations on creating your first product!

I would stay away from PPC for now as you can dump a lot of money into that kind of advertising and may not get a good return on investment to start.

Social Media is definately a great way to start with your niche. Add about 10 people a day in your niche by going into groups related to your category - send them a message "that you saw them in the group and just wanted to connect" - build on this every day and be sure to create a facebook fanpage.

You can build your fanpage like a mini-website and offer something of value so they click the "Like" button. Post on your fanpage at least 3 times a day. You can also create a Twitter account and add people in your niche as well - post throughout the day.

I love the idea of Joint Ventures and you can find those who are in your niche by going to Clickbank and looking through similar products, you can then search the website for the contact info. I have a good script for contacting them, pm me if you'd like it. Just remember w/joint ventures, in the beginning until you build a list (and you will do so, through your JV's list) you may need to give 100% of your profits to your partner. This is worth it because you'll have a list built super fast. Do not discount this method, it's your fastest way to income.

I think Clickbank is a good method to add as well. If you have a good product, it is likely that affiliates will want to promote you. Make sure to make it easy for them by adding swipe copy and banners and text ads.

Forums in your niche are a fantastic method of getting the word out. You can send them to your blog, or your facebook fanpage via your signature link.

Another excellent method (that is along the lines of a JV list) are ezine ads to your specific market. These people have already purchased something in your category and are proven buyers. I have a good source for ezines, just pm me.

Track everything your doing w/a tracking system, then you will know what is working more effectively. When you find a source that is working better than the others, focus more on that one source.

    I hope this helps.

thanks for your advice petemcal and shmerns

I think I am missing something with your JV advice though...

You said that I might have to give 100% profits in the beginning until I build a list - which I will do through my JV partner... how do I make money from this list though if I just gave it all away to my JV partner?

I am guessing I would have to create more information products? Or try to "re-sell" my program to the non-buyers on the list down the line, once my JV is over?

    Hi,

I think you would do well to focus on just one area to begin with as to use each area effectively is a huge undertaking in itself.

    Where to focus? JV's!

If you hurry, there is a self improvement giveaway happening that you could be a part of selfimprovementgifts6.com. Basically you would give away something related to your product in order to build your list.

The other reason that I immediately thought of this giveaway is that by being a part of it, you would be able to see all the other people involved and contact them for potential JV opportunities, a big list of targeted contacts! There are right and wrong ways of doing this, so study up!

    Congrats on getting started.

JV's and personal sales are best. Everything from guest blogging, forum posting (including putting a link to your product here), and the social media to find people with lists. Self help sales often depend on the 'personality' as much as the product.

Chances are if you are new your conversions are very low because your sales page wasn't written by a top copywriter. So the 'personal recommendation' is going to be the most powerful sales tool.

Clickbank is good if you are attractive to affiliates who do this full-time. It's a poor choice for the casual affiliate who can send you a couple of sales- they just can't get their money out easily. CB affiliates are also money-hungry. They will ignore poor converting offers.

But I prefer PayDotCom.com so my casual affiliates get paid via PayPal which they are familiar with. Or DigiResults — Work Less, Sell More might be good. Or a system that fits affiliates in with 1shoppingcart (not my expertise).

    Michael,

Congrats on the product, that is awesome! I would recommend doing the JV route and the Ezines are an awesome idea. You may want to look at doing an interview with an expert in the niche who could then mail his list as a JV.

Thanks for all the great advice!

I think I will focus mainly on JV's/Affiliates and Ads on ezines and other relevant websites...

I will also continue to build a following on Twitter and Facebook...

    *fingers crossed*

Thanks again everyone - much appreciated!

I would create a lead gen Ebook (with great content but don't give the whole farm away) and put it on the Kindle for free and offer it on your website as well.

In addition, you could write some excellent articles to put on your site and include plenty of good keywords.

    thanks Paul!

I actually have a "special report" ebook that leads receive once they opt-in on my landing page - but the ebook sounds like a good idea as well!
