From my experience, article marketing does work & requires lot of work hours if you not outsourcing. And it's hard to earn tons of money with that because of lot of competition.

This couldn't be farther from the truth. Almost every "big guru" out there has several, if not hundreds, of different pen names. Not only that, but I guarantee that they have content writers that pump out content for them under these different pen names.

For someone with as much exposure as Mike, I would doubt ten times over that he would ever write articles under his own name. That would reveal all of his niche markets. The smaller guys don't have to worry about this though, as their name alone wouldn't garner tons of search results. People are generally not looking to see what the "little unknown guy" is doing.

Am I saying he doesn't use article marketing? No, but whether he does or not, I can guarantee he's writing under several different pen names.

That is soo true. I only 65 live articles, but they are strewn over 6 different pen names so far. Every time I try a new niche, I use a new pen name. I feel it gives more credibility instead of having one name that is witting on everything under the sun.

I will eventually have 1000 up, but no one will ever know it...unless it is a REALLY hot niche and I write 1000 just on that subject.

By the way, on those 65 articles I have made about $500 or so. Last year (in January 2008) I wrote 5 articles on one niche. I didnt know what I was doing. I just wrote them and submitted them to EZA. Well over the course of last year, I ended up with about $400 in commission from those five articles.

I didnt discover WF until November, so I didnt know I had done something right - niether did I know about keyword research. Imagine if I had found WF in Jan. of last year. I would have made serious bank. I tried the niche this month, and it is so saturated that I cant even get a decent clickthrough...especially compared to how well those five articles did for 5 months.

I say just do it and find out. Obviously it works for some and not for others just like everything else. Everybody has a different style of writing and are on different levels in IM and with their writing skills so this could go on and on and on and on and on and then on some more.

Articles have been working for me and Its not that I have written too many articles.
I am using articles and squidoo together and they work great for me.
I have been getting first page rankings for my lenses even though I haven't touched them for a long time.

The more articles you have the more results you will get...But yes they should be good quality too. Internet has billions of articles and you will see some real income when you get atleast 500+.

Article marketing definitely works, but it should be just part of your overall traffic strategy. It can also be hugely time consuming, so outsourcing is the answer, but you do need to ensure that the articles you get are quality and not the usual garbage.

Try somewhere like Articles For Affiliates! - The article writing service that delivers the sort of articles that affiliates have been looking for! (not an affiliate link). I use them and have been pleased enough to give them a testimonial, which is something I don't do lightly. Not the cheapest (and not the dearest) but you get what you pay for with article writers.

Quality articles are the key to success with article marketing. Don't waste your time putting out low quality content.

I wrote 7 articles the other day with this new site I just started (affiliate marketing) and I already have 1 sale so yes it does work.

EDIT- even if your articles are not bringing in some cash they still are giving you backlinks and even more so when they are published.

    Yes, they work.

But they don't work for everyone.

There are a lot of things that goes into making article marketing work for you. There's that old quality vs quantity argument, then the whole hard work and time that goes into writing the articles etc.

Articles are NOT the magic pill people look for. They take work - sometimes hard work when you pick up a niche that doesn't have research-able content available easily.

I feel a lot of nay-sayers who despise articles or article marketing (or for any method, for that matter) are doing something wrong somewhere with their articles. It could be the wrong keywords, the wrong titles, the wrong resources boxes or combination - anything. I've committed those mistakes myself at times and have had to rewrite everything from scratch.

Articles and article marketing does work. Can you make it work for YOU - that's a whole different story...

The problem with many marketers is that they think they can just put up a
few articles and the money is going to start rolling in. Unless you're in a niche
that is relatively unknown and has a big demand, this is not the case. You
need to write quality articles and a lot of them.

At least that has been my personal experience from several years of
cranking out articles on a daily basis.

It depends on the niche. For example, Acne and dating are great niches for article marketing. The number of views are simply phenomenal and when combined with smart keyword research and good content they DEFINITELY work.

Article marketing works if you know what you want out of the whole process. You need to know what your goals are for your article campaign. You need to do your research just like any other marketing.

You cannot haphazardly toss up a few article and expect results.

      1. Articles must be well written
      2. Articles must be dead on target for your niche
      3. Articles must be keyword rich
      4. Articles must have GREAT titles to draw attention
      5. You must have MANY articles

What is the purpose of your article campaign? Are you trying to send traffic to an affiliate site? Or are you trying to increase your SEO efforts for your own site by building back links?

Article marketing in and of itself will not make you money. If your landing page sucks, you will not convert sales.

Article marketing is a means to an end. All the pieces of the puzzle must fit together and work in harmony.

To say that you have 50 articles out there floating around means nothing. How much effort has been put into the rest of the cycle?

If you are trying to save money by doing article marketing versus PPC you are going to have to sacrifice your time in exchange. There are no truly "free" ways to make money online. I don't care what others are telling you. It is going to cost you time or money.

Article marketing works if the rest of your project or campaign is up to par. Don't give up on it. Work harder at it as a whole. Put the puzzle together.

Article marketing has been a huge part of my business over the years and has made me many 1000s of dollars. Success depends on many factors that need to be addressed and treated in a business like manner.

The main problem for many article marketers is that they give up to easily when they don't see instant results. This is what I call in my upcoming article marketing course the "Field of Dreams" effect, if you remember that movie. In other words, many people expect an "If you write it, they will come" approach that works great in Hollywood but not in the real world.

This is fine with me as one of the real secrets of article marketing is CONSISTENCY. However, that being said, if you are consistently putting out terrible articles then you are going to go nowhere fast.

Here is a very basic strategy and system that can turn you into a very successful article marketer promoting affiliate products:

    1. Thorough market research in your niche, finding high volume, low competition keywords
    2. Understand your market, what do they actually want to know about?
    3. Create a powerful title with your keyword at the beginning.
    4. Structure your article to capture their attention, empathize with the problem you are addressing and speak directly to them as a reader
    5. Use your keyword and variants on that keyword at least once every 100 words. IE the main keyword once and a variant or related word at least once every 100 words.
    6. Drive them down the page to a conclusion but don't stop there...
    7. Your resource box should continue your article and be the actual "Continue" to your website and add a hook. For example:

"Next, we have collected a wide range of additional information and resources about "X" that you can download which will help you with your situation. Go here now and download this free report today and learn one final secret that we did not tell you here..."
    8. Capture your readers email on your landing page using a well formatted squeeze page (so you can continue to market to them) before you deliver the solution. Then give them that one last secret (the product or offer you are promoting)
    9. Setup a series of valuable emails as well as promotional ones (balance 50/50 in terms of trust building emails and sales emails that promote affiliate products)

This method does not even touch on the actual important part of article marketing which is the actual promotion of your articles, which is another reason many article marketers fail. However, I will save those techniques for the article marketing course or I will end up giving away too many of my secrets

    Hope this helps you all...

    Regards

Wow. It seems your intentions were good when you started this thread but as a newbie I'm even more confused as to whether it's a good idea to write articles as everyone is saying something different but the overall idea seems to be...write quality articles and as many as you can!

  • If I'm completely honest article marketing hasn't really done a lot for my business overall.

Sure, I get some traffic through clicks now and again, but as far as SEO goes I've yet to see a single resource box backlink credited to my sites.

I have over 1000 articles at EZA (god even knows how many distributed to other directories) and I can tell you they do work. Up until recently I promoted my sites almost exclusively with articles. I'm not rich, but I make enough to pay the mortgage every month.

Having said that, I agree with what most of the people above are saying - you have to use quality articles and you have to write a LOT of them.

Most people write 5 or 6 articles and expect to make $100 a day. That is unlikely to happen.

Not only that, but you need to know how to write the article so that it gives out good info, but leaves the reader wanting to know something else so that they will click to your site. (this is something I have not practiced myself until recently).

The thing about articles is that it is a very slow way to make money, but it is long lasting. I still get traffic from articles I wrote 4 years ago.
