Question about buying an expiring website

Hello, i'm a newbie here so please bear with what may be an obvious question. I've looked all over the google for the information, but can't seem to find it so if anyone here has experience buying an existing/expiring domain, I'd be really grateful for the advice.
There's a forum I frequent quite often and find really useful for information and tips. Well, it expired a few days ago and now I can't access the site. If I wait for it to go on auction, am i just buying the domain name or the site content? I'm guessing I'm only getting the domain name...is there any way for me to buy the domain AND preserve all the content on there?
There's just a lot of useful info...I hate that it's all going away...

Thanks!

Contact the owner of the website and ask him. If you wait till the auction, the content won't be there. The content has the owner of the website in for of files and folders on the server and database. When you get the files and database, you can get it up on the domain after you buy on the auction.

My advice, contact the owner and ask him. If you don't know the contact info, try "who is" searching domains.
