[Proof] WarriorForums becoming new hub for PR5 profile backlinks

hi,

I have come across many such profiles daily and now they are catching on my nerves, ****ty comments on vague threads just about anything. Look at the conversation below in the screen shot, what do you think the user called Barbie01 finds so perfect and informative, they are discussing about their own stuff and this user vaguely comes in and drops a comment.

Proof:

The thread is located here: http://www.warriorforum.com/programm...-writable.html

And if you can access the profile have a look it is giving a PR5 do-follow back link to a website too.

@Admins, can we do something to help?...

Thanks

Isn't that why there is a "Report Post" button? I agree, posts like this arent ment to help or ask a question... plain spam.

The best thing you can do is hit the little red triangle in the left hand side of the post and report it. The mods will then take a look and more than likely remove it. The truth is this kind of thing happens a lot more often than you probably realize... you just don't get to see half of the posts because the mods delete them before you do.

They are definitely well aware of this and do their best to keep on top of things. But obviously they can't have their eyes everywhere and that is why they also rely on people reporting posts like these.

One other thing worth pointing out. Like in the example you posted above, just because they don't have any backlinks in their signature does not mean you shouldn't report them. A lot of these characters will write the posts and then come back days/weeks later and turn on their signature in the hope they will have evaded detection.

    Report Report Report!

Well, that's easier said than done. Is it against the rules to make a profile and post something stupid and pointless? In this particular situation I can see it, because the comment is irrelevant. But other cases are not so clear.

I do a lot of reporting. I try to stick to clear-cut rule violations and really egregious spamming. But there are countless other people engaging in spammy behaviour that I don't report because they are sort of borderline or I don't have evidence of rule-breaking. And frankly, I think the mods are sick of seeing my reports and I feel kind of silly after a while.

Take the Mind Warriors forum. Lately it seems like 80% of the posters are fake accounts. People are creating multiple accounts and building up a posting history, for what purpose I don't know (selling accounts or using them for testimonials, perhaps).

I know the accounts are fake because fake posters have completely different patterns of behaviour than real people. It's so obvious. But I have no proof. And I don't like annoying mods any more than necessary.

I just wish more members would report more stuff. Then real people could have more useful conversations with other real people.

        Gail,

Trust me, the mods do not get sick of it -- well they might get sick of the spammers but they don't get sick of deleting them. They would much rather you report something if you find it suspicious. Take it from someone who removes a lot of these types of comments from the Mobile Marketing section of this forum everyday of the week -- although they may not be breaking a rule as such it starts to become very obvious which posts are genuine and which are not.

I see it all. People copying sentences from other posts in the same thread -- to the untrained eye it doesn't always click but I catch people doing this quite often. People copying content from outside the forum and using it as post content to beef up their post count. Then there are those who come in and post a lot of vague one-liners with their new account that has a signature full of links.

I must admit when looking at suspicious posts there are a number of things I generally look at to help make up my mind. More often than not it is the newer accounts with no War Room membership that seem to cause the most problems... and they are the ones I will always keep an extra little eye on.

As someone else pointed out above... we, you and I, and the rest of the WF members are all moderators. This forum would not work without the contribution made from all members so make sure you keep up the reporting!

I wonder which WSO Barbie bought.

These are not PR5 profile backlinks. Her profile will be PR0 and so will the thread be - like this one. The home page is PR5 and she won't have a link there.

Like everybody says report, instead of creating what is essentially a thread with no value except for letting members know that they can report things.

Well if you notice those spam posts, you can hit the report. WF moderators always clean crappy profiles and posts everyday. I know it because some of my posts gets deleted As WF mods say, you can also be a moderator by using WF features like reporting spam posts and profiles.

Many warriors are doing this and you can do it too. Let's make WF's reputation better.

    There is no pr5 link.

The thread page and her profile page is pr n/a.

Pages have pr and not domains.

Oh yes, i am always against the spam always and that barbie doll should be kicked out.

I get what you mean. Anyhow, I've got nth against using forums to backlink, I mean, its nothing unusual. People doing that should at the very least, however, take the time to partcipate in the discussion properly, not use junk comments.

This profile (mine) is "linked back" from over 1,300 posts - and is still PR-n/a

It doesn't rank for 'drmani' either!

    Happy back-linking to Barbie!

The user "madhuriarora" is also spamming with his post just to increase his post count...

I have already reported both of these users by using the red triangle...

        wrongnumber,

Will and others made most of the relevant points. I would just ask... Are you only now noticing this? It's been going on for years.

        Gail,
I think the mods are sick of seeing my reports and I feel kind of silly after a while.
Nope. Please keep doing what you've been doing. We need more people reporting the way you do.

And if you're seeing that stuff in the Mind Warriors section, report that, too. We can usually tell right away if it's a botversation.

        General observation:

"Barbie01" was actually one of the better examples. Probably "guarantees" the posts will read naturally and "stick." S/he's from the Philippines, so you'd expect reasonable fluency in English. And yes, s/he would have come back later and added the sig file. Most likely for a taco joint in Oregon, or a camera review site.

Some others add image tags that stuff cookies. If you see copied text from previous posts that's not marked as a quote, it's a safe bet that one is a cookie stuffer.

This is what you start when you hire most of those backlinking "services." You're just making messes that other people have to clean up.

I sometimes see posts from people where English is clearly their 2nd language and I ask myself are they just adding useless posts to get their count up or do they genuinely think they are helping/contributing.

Yes, it looks spammy. I'm on here all day reading and very rarely post. And I notice this stuff all day long. I'm always thinking wtf another crappy post. It's obvious they're trying to reach there 50 posts. However, I do think the Mods do a great job. And that's why I love this place. I'm just glad this site isn't just like all the other forums with just spam.

    Paul Myers,

I have been noticing it regularly... also I have been going through the Warrior Forum Outages... saying its a Database errors... but wanted to share this... because many mistake this as real comments (and even end up quoting and replying them... shhhh!...)... have a look at one such warrior outage...:

    SOME DATABASE ERROR IMAGE...

    Thanks

    Fluff,
I've learned an amazing amount about WF moderation by reporting posters and watching what happens.
And the lessons are probably different from what someone else would learn through the same process. Selection bias, and the time of day you report things, will affect the response somewhat.

That doesn't mean your conclusions are necessarily wrong, but it's something to keep in mind.

    WrongNumber,

What was the point of linking to that huge image? We all know by now what the "Database Error" screen looks like.

I think I have missed the entire point. This is in regard to a link in someone's profile? I was under the impression you could place a link in your profile, no questions asked.
