What I've Learned Today About Backups

Hey guys,

Here is a lesson i've learned today: always have 1 or more separate websites (or subdomains) that have only time-proven themes and plugins installed.

Today when i woke up, i felt that something was wrong. As usual, i checked some of my websites and was surprised to see only a white screen in front of me. After a 5 minute scream of the best curse words the Russian language has to offer, i contacted the Hostgator team. They found out that the plugins were the cause of my websites' black...whiteout.

Accidentally, i found a website that worked well. So i compared the plugins of the working website and the dead ones, and found out that two!! of them were causing this mess. If you would try to delete only one of them, you would still see a white screen.

That's why i recommend you always have a website with proven plugins and themes.

Oh, and for those who are interested, the plugins that almost made my heart stop are:

Pingback Optimizer and Wp-Slimstat

King regards,
Andrii

Andrii, if you are buying WP plugins, then you have to be very sure they are OK and safe to put into your site. Most everything from Wordpress.org is generally Ok depending on your Theme and what else you have on your site. But not always.

Make sure that what you buy for WP is going to work. Test, test, test! Set up a test site along with your live one. I wouldn't ever use anything like the Pingback Optimizer. I have another paid product for that which is recommended by the top guys.

As for the WP Slimstat. If you look at the details and feedback from it, you will see that it's a failure and doesn't work anyway...always check the details and read the small print from WP.org, then test it!

    Good Luck!
