I keep in mind that I'll be dead soon enough, so might as well get on with it now!

I motivate myself by thinking about freedom to do whatever I want to do and with the money in my pocket to do it.

Well, this can happen to all of us, it happened to me too, here is what I'd do:

    1) Download a motivating Audiobook.
    2) Workout, Jog, do something physical
    3) Try to get more sunlight, it helps
    4) Grab your laptop and work from your local Starbucks or anyplace with WiFi
    5) Sign up for an interesting class, Do something new (i.e. skydiving)
    6) Having a good friend who is not negative is a big help too.

I hope you do all this and snap out of it.

Obviously you're not forced to do it. And probably your life doesn't depend on it.

One way is to amp up your motivation - think about what Anthony Robbins calls your "big reason why". Why does it matter that you do this thing? Why MUST you do it?

But really the most powerful way to handle this is get a coach. A coach will help you figure out what you really want and how best to get yourself out of the way of achieving it.

    Hi DrumDruid,

This is a subject I've put a lot of thought and research into lately, and I've made some interesting (to me) discoveries you might like as well.

At first, I thought like many people, that if you weren't doing what you wanted to do the reason you weren't was because you didn't want it badly enough. I discovered that's simply not true.

Your desires may not have been attained, but it wasn't because your want wasn't big enough.

What I've found is you may have a desire, and you may have motive to attain said desire. But without "motivation," chances are your desire will remain unfulfilled.

Interestingly enough, I've discovered the existence of both desire and motive are not enough to get someone to move forward toward attainment.

People say your "reason for" doing a thing is your motivation. I've heard it said motivation is the "reason why," but I find this faulty, to my way of thinking.

You may have motive, and still not take action. This means you lack motivation -- not that you lack a motive.

Motive is the reason why you're looking for an opportunity to "do something," yes. But "motive - ation" is motive in action. So how can one be/get motivated? How can one make their "reason why" move?

There is a third piece of the motivation puzzle which must be in place. Take a look at what I call the "Motivation Trinity":

    1. Desire
    2. Motive
    3. Opportunity

All three are needed before a person will move forward toward attainment. Here's more about that "third piece" of the puzzle: Opportunity.

When what you want aligns with an acceptable way (to you) to get it, THEN you become motivated. You begin to move toward the object of your desire. To gravitate forward toward achieving your goal.

Thus, I believe an alignment of desire, backed by a strong motive and acceptable opportunity equals motivation in the forward-moving sense.

    Hope this helps ...

    Tina

You'll have to ask yourself, what is your purpose? Why do you choose to do what you are doing now? Do you have a compelling reason to change what you are doing now? Ultimately, it is only "you" who is holding you back in any endeavor. I know that I am the worst stumbling block that I have in my life! However, I also know that I am my own salvation toward achieving my goals.

The solution to your questions require that you ask more about yourself than anything else. I know it sounds a bit cryptic. However, I believe it may help.

    Enjoy....

There are some great suggestions above in this thread. Personally, I think it really helps to look back at moments where I have triumphed and seek inspiration and motivation from them. I think we all have such moments at any point in our past that we can benefit from.

Besides that, you can look at the example of successful people on this forum. Reading success stories on this forum or otherwise can have an immense motivational boost. You could also find yourself a mentor or a coach to help you out with this.

    I hope this helps
