Interesting Clickbank Problem

Someone that purchased my program a few evenings ago
ended up refunding early the next morning, which means
he had contacted Clickbank pretty quickly after purchase
in order to get his refund that fast.

So, I emailed him to see what caused the refund. I was
expecting him to make up an excuse for simply being a
serial refunder.

It turns out Clickbank billed him twice. He used a prepaid
credit card that sends him emails immediately upon use.
So, he received 2 different email notification about Clickbank.

So, he called the next day to get it sorted out with them,
and apparently they refunded him, no problem.

Everything sounds normal, right?

Well, the problem is that Clickbank only reported 1 sale to me...
and he only refunded 1 of them b/c he likes the program and
didn't want to completely refund.

So, Clickbank takes away the only sale I am notified of, and
pockets the other $67 sale.

I am not saying that this was done on purpose, but I find it
very interesting and may explain why some people have been
seeing problems with Clickbank sales.

Has anyone else seen something like this?

EDIT - I forgot to mention that in the spot where Clickbank
puts a reason for the refund, they claimed that the customer
called in and was unhappy with the purchase.

I asked him about that when I emailed him and he said it was
not at all what he said to them... I also thought it was
interesting that they made that claim instead of saying that
the customer was double charged.

Did you try to contact Clickbank to see what they had to say about it?

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

I haven't had time to email them yet.

I assume it will be the same type of response in which they
just avoid all responsibility, so I figured I would share it with
the Warriors first and see if anyone else has seen this thing
      happen to them lately too.

I will email Clickbank when I get time this afternoon and I
will update the thread when they respond.

That wouldn't of taken any more time then it did to post here.

Should that not have been the first thing one would do. It was
        probably just a error.

With all the clickbank bashing that goes on it just makes it look like
they try to rip people off where as that is probably not the case at
        all.

Maybe Clickbank did unintentionally pocket the difference or there was an issue with the bank double-charging. This has been happening a lot lately and drives people totally nuts. The bank charges the transaction twice and then refunds the transaction a day or two later. The bank might be checking to make sure the customer actually has money but it is a REALLY ANNOYING thing for the bank to do. Customers that don't know any better automatically assume they were charged twice by the vendor. *Sigh.*

Double billing by the bank isn't legal. If I got double billed by my bank, it's time to talk to the bank in a language I wouldn't use on this forum.

The OP needs to tell his customer to have the bank clear this completely out, and try the purchase again and see if he's double billed a second time. If that happens, the customer than needs to goto the bank and ask why they are doing this.

You can try to call their local number in Idaho. In my experience, they have always been friendly and easy to work with.

When you say 'reported' do you mean an email notification
    - or have you checked your account ?

By reported I mean actually in my account, but since it isn't in my account either, there was no email... but I was specifically just referring to it not being reported in my account.

sr51mth - Thanks for the input, but that is not relevant here. If you want to get your signature link more exposure and not get booted so fast, you may want to read the OP's a little better.

What most People don't realise with clickbank is that you must make 5 consecutive sales to get your commision if you only get 4 then you do not get paid and clickbank actualy charge you for holding your money. So lots of people never receive there commissions.

I know. I just wrote a book about it.

But it has nothing to do with the problem in this thread.

I hate it when I see a double charge from clickbank. To me it's just the same as a non-sale. Because as soon as clickbank is contacted about it, they almost always refund both charges.

Maybe this is what they did in your case. I know from years of being w/ clickbank, that they go through their refund claims in batches. I think in their haste to get through them, that they often give out their cookie cutter reasons and responses to the refunds.

Have you considered the possibility that the customer is embarrassed because they refunded for nefarious reasons and chose to lie through their teeth?

          This is a distinct possibility.

A lot of people don't realize that vendors can see customer comments to CB and some of the lies I've seen are outrageous.

"emailed seller 5 times and left phone message and he refused refund"

The above was actually a message to CB someone left 15 minutes after purchasing from me.

Not saying that's your case but...it happens.

I can verify though that CB has had double-billing issues in the past...could it also just be an authorization? Sometimes they show as well and then drop off after a day or so.

        Ditto for me.

They even do that when I contact them (as the vendor) and say please refund this charge because the customer was charged twice. They then go find the OTHER charge and refund that too.

That's funny that you said that. a while back I thought the same thing. I did a promo for an affiliate product giving away a bonus if someone bought from me, and out of 20 sales I had 1-2 people say they bought it from my link but I never got credit for it. Some of them even said they saw my affiliate ID on the order page and still didn't track it.

I mean there could be some other reasons for this happening, but still it looks shady
