if some one clicks your link and decides to go back a week later and search for the item in amazon, does it remember you referred them?

The amazon cookie lasts 24 hours. After that, you will not get credit for the sale. Amazon is great at converting though.

As co2 said, the Amazon cookie generally last for 24 hours.

However, if someone who goes to Amazon via your affiliate link puts something in the Shopping Cart and leaves without buying it, they can come back up to 90 days later (typically the time until the shopping cart expires) and make the purchase and you'll still get credit for it. That is, unless the visitor clicks on someone else's Amazon affiliate link in the mean time.
