I have an Australian client with a U.S. bank account who wants to send me a payment via PayPal (she doesn't have a PayPal account). I contacted PayPal and they said she needs to go to the U.S. PayPal site (PayPal.com) and not the Austrailian PayPal site (PayPal.com.au) in order to do this (for her to use her U.S. account).

The problem is that when she types the U.S. url into her browser, it automatically redirects her to the Australian PayPal site. However, when I type in the Australian url, it takes me to the Australian site and doesn't redirect me.

Does anyone know how she can avoid this automatic redirect? I assume there must be a simple solution, but I don't know what it is....

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am in Australia and just tested this. Go to the top right hand side of the Paypal website and there is a drop down box where you can select your country and language. Get your client to select United States and then hit the 'Select' button and they will be directed to the US version of Paypal.

    Hiya Cali,

Not sure if this will work, but it's worth a shot...

Tell your friend to access PayPal through a free proxy server site (like Hide My Ass! Free Proxy and Privacy Tools - Surf The Web Anonymously). Then in their web proxy dialog box type in paypal.com and see what happens.

It might just work. My theory is that if hidemyass.com or other similar sites use US based proxies, then PayPal might not redirect your friend to the paypal.au site.

I can't try it myself because I'm in the states...but just maybe...

I wouldn't suggest using proxies. Paypal relies on your correct IP address and you'll risk having your account banned. People have their accounts limited all the time for logging in from different countries so you're only asking for trouble doing this.

Thanks SO MUCH, Will and Tyler! I think Will's suggestion is exactly what I needed (I knew an Aussie would probably know!). I will tell her to try that. Thanks again so much!!

Will, I must be blind - I'm on the AU site right now but not seeing the drop down link...
Perhaps it's not showing for me because I'm in the U.S.??

It was there a minute ago. I'm pretty sure you won't see it because you are in the US.

My client doesn't have a PayPal account. Also, I did contact PayPal and they told me to have her use the U.S. PayPal site; the problem was that it kept redirecting her.

The dropdown box for country selection appears if you not in the USA so your client in Australia will see it and she could open free account and just use her credit card if its linked to her USA account.
