Starting a List in a Listless Niche

In a separate thread I mentioned that I was taking my first shot at article syndication (and building a list actually) in a niche where I dropship a $300-$500 product.

I wanted to get an opinion from anyone who cares to opine. I'm on a kick now where I need to start to build a list no matter the niche, but I'm in a separate niche where this time I truly have no idea how to do it. Last I mentioned selling bean bag chairs (which is not the niche I'm referring to in the first paragraph) and how I didn't see what opportunities there are to cross sell different products there.

I have a website where people leave their information like name, address, phone, etc. to get a free health/life insurance quote. None of that information comes to me. It goes right to the merchant.

Anyone have any ideas on how to create a list where I might be able to send good content, and then from time to time send a link offering a free health/life insurance quote? I'm totally stumped on how to include list building in this area. Thanks for any help.

In regards to Health/Life Insurance you need to find out why people are looking for those things. Are they young and just starting out in life and at the point they now have a family so life insurance is a top priority?

Or could they be middle aged and are looking for better deals or better coverage to their existing plan?

Think along those lines when you are trying to think of additional information you can provide.

Ask yourself what young people who have new families need. They probably need money saving advice, how to raise children, etc.

The middle aged people probably need more information on how to save money on prescription drugs, how to live longer and healthier, etc...

Thanks for that idea. I definitely feel you are right, I need to figure out who the demographic is. I do see names and ages, and so they seem to be a good mix of both men and women, and of all ages. That might make that hard, but I'll definitely keep digging in that area.

What's the one thing that every single person who submits that form has in common?

They want an insurance quote. Which, by extension, means they want insurance.

So build your list by teaching them how to get the most from their insurance, whether it's health or life. What do the various terms in a policy mean, in plain English? What traps are there to avoid? How should changes in life situation affect insurance planning?

    You get the drift.

And the natural soft-sell after every single message/lesson is "click here for a free quote on [health/life] insurance."

Thanks for that idea as well. I am going to implement those ideas. Any ideas on if there are other areas that might be worth looking into to see if people that need insurance maybe hang out? I was thinking maybe people that are interested in finance, but not sure on that.

If you're going to think finance, look at stuff like estate planning, retirement planning, etc.
