Does Fiverr really work?

I have just started working on developing some services over on fiverr. In the first week that some of the jobs were listed I got a bunch of work and thought it would be great, now it has started to tail off.

Is fiverr really sustainable? I am mostly doing website navigation videos and reviews with camtasia right now and I just added another gig where I will do the same with android apps.

Any suggestions on improvements? My ID over there is entrecon.

Being successful on Fiverr is based on a couple of things.

    1) Promote your gigs of forums.
    2) You become a featured Seller.
    3) Product or Service that is constantly in demand. - Video Testimonials
    4) You need to set up communication with clients outside of Fiverr - Forbidden but worth it.
    5) You offer a service that is worth more than $5 - People know it and you get lots of orders.

You need to promote your gigs outside of fiverr until you gain some traction inside fiverr. Once that happens you should find that you get a lot of repeat business if you do a good job.

Start branding yourself. Spread out the word of who you are and what you specialize in. Would be nice to have a blog and have some samples of your work. Another is develop a strong social media presence. That will always work out for you. The trick is to keep exposing yourself to other people. If you don't then all you can rely on is your client's recommendations which isn't as reliable.

You want to try to get repeat customers. You should always make sure you deliver early or at least on time. Buyers appreciate that. Lately, at least half of my gigs have been delivered very late.

It is, but I definitely think it's not worth it. $4 / gig that go into your "pocket" (PayPal account - which means extra fees until it actually gets into your real pocket)? Not worth it in my opinion.

    • It's not worth it to me, either -- I have three businesses that pay better than Fiverr gigs -- but there are some people who have time, some skills and can't really think of any other way to make money.

I was enthusiastic about Fiverr when it debuted and I still buy Fiverr gigs, but increasingly Fiverr work is turning into something less inspiring, almost like servitude. They're trying to get people fired up by giving them Level 1 or 2 designations, but invariably those folks discover that they don't get any more sales than they did before.

Heaven help you if you miss a deadline for completing a gig or get some buyer who wants you to do something way out of the scope of the gig.

If you have to spend an hour a day simply promoting your Fiverr gigs, doesn't that cut into your net profit?

It requires nothing more than the touch of a button and I edit the gig each day to bump it up which also takes a second.

I use my gig to invest in outsourcing for my blog ie graphics and stuff I cant do

Carol, what I was referring to was the oft-given advice that you should use social media and other tools to promote your gigs. I actually know people who spend quite a bit of time flogging their gigs, yet are always dissatisfied with the number of sales they get.

When you say "bump", are you saying you get a higher placement in search by editing your gig? Do you change the title or the description or both?

      • I have only been doing it strong about a week and already made $140

        That's the new-user effect.

When you get your first gig approved and it goes live, it gets added on the front page. I remember how thrilled I was to see my gig on page one. Then it slipped to page two, then to oblivion.

But yes, you typically make the most sales when you are new.

I have only been doing it strong about a week and already made $140, but I also agree with some of the other comments on here. I am wondering if the higher level of gig extras helps once you can use them.

    Hey lovely Fluff

sorry I sure didnt meant to contradict you honey and I get what your saying totally.

I chose something that would require very little input from me but still good value for customers and sends traffic to my site.

I always make tiny changes I believe any edit you make bumps it up but I am not totally sure of that. I added amazing value to my extra gig and now I am seeing more $10 gigs. My reviews are good too so thats helping me get more eyes on my gig.

As a form of almost passive income I can see the potential that in a year or so this gig will be really worth the intitial efforts.

I am going to pay someone a fiver to make me a video to promote it

ahem if anyone here wants to do it get in touch carolfinlaysoncoaching@gmail.com
