Hello, should I transfer my all internet marketing related domains from Godaddy to Namecheap just to be at the safe side of Sopa? Is Namecheap safe and will NOT remove any of my domains? Will all of my sites be secure with Namecheap? Please share your thoughts. Thanks -Steve |

I'd move them regardless. But that's because I've never liked GoDaddy. (Only used them because they were the most popular.) In the process of moving my final domain from GD to Namecheap this month.

Hi Steve, If SOPA or some variation goes through, then one registrar won't be any "safer" than any other registrar. The only reason people were moving domains from GD was to protest GD's initial support of SOPA. Well, that and GD has some other questionable practices. But again, if any variation of that bill goes through, it won't matter where your domains are housed or hosted, because the law will affect GD, NC and other registrars/hosts pretty much equally. ~Becky | |

Transferrring them has nothing to do with being on the safe side of SOPA/PIPA. They are bills that are shelved for now and your domains are safe in Godaddy and safe in Namecheap unless you run afoul of the law. Then they won't be safe anywhere. Transferring domains from Godaddy was done as a protest because Godaddy supported SOPA/PIPA. Godaddy has withdrawn that support. Up to you whether to transfer or not. I transferred mine because of Godaddy's support of SOPA/PIPA. That being said, all the years that I was with Godaddy, never had a single problem with them other than their site is maddeningly slow on a slower Internet connection and that by itself, was a good reason for me to leave. |
