Blogspot.com redirects to blogspot.com.au

I rarely check on my old sites hosted on blogspot anymore, but i just visited one today and it redirects from myblog.blogspot.com to myblog.blogspot.com.au.

When did this happen? Will all my visitors be directed to .co.au or is that just for aussies?

What happens to all my backlinks that were pointing to myblog.blogspot.com address?

How do I prevent this and just stick with the .com ending?

If it has a permanent redirect on it (301 redirect) I've read that the link juice is passed on with no loss.

If I am incorrect on this I'm sure a more knowledgeable SEO expert will let you know.

This is correct, and if Blogger is doing it, you can bet it is a 301 Redirect.

If you are in Australia, this move makes sense. If you are not in Australia, that is a strange development.

I lost my blogger account years ago, and never went back, so I can't check to see if it is unique to you or not.

This problem all started on 31st Jan, 2012. the blogspot is redirecting to country level domain now. Even the Google's official blog will also redirected (you can check it).

But what is more shocking about this development is Google has not informed it anywhere, even not in its official blog!

There are a lot of things they do and never tell us about.

If you don't want to be redirected, put a "/ncr" in the end of your url. (NCR = No Country Redirect).

    for example: something.blogspot.com/ncr

By the way you can be sure your rankings will be still good!

Adding the /ncr definitely works... I wish google had the courtesy to at least give us a hint of their next sweeping moves...

Thanks folks. Ive been searching for more info on this and it does seem like blogspot is now redirecting web visitors to their respective country level domains.
Seems like Google may want to censor some blogs from being seen in certain countries.

This has been an update by google:

Why does my blog redirect to a country-specific URL? - Blogger Help

Just a couple of the stuff covered:

Q: Why am I seeing a URL change?
A: Over the coming weeks you might notice that the URL of a blog you're reading has been redirected to a country-code top level domain, or "ccTLD." For example, if you're in Australia and viewing [blogname].blogspot.com, you might be redirected [blogname].blogspot.com.au. A ccTLD, when it appears, corresponds with the country of the reader’s current location.

Q: Where will I see this change?
A: We routinely launch limited updates, so in the coming months you will see ccTLDs in additional countries.

    Q: Why is this happening?
A: Migrating to localized domains will allow us to continue promoting free expression and responsible publishing while providing greater flexibility in complying with valid removal requests pursuant to local law. By utilizing ccTLDs, content removals can be managed on a per country basis, which will limit their impact to the smallest number of readers. Content removed due to a specific country’s law will only be removed from the relevant ccTLD.

Q: How will this change affect my blog?
A: Blog owners should not see any visible differences to their blog other than the URL redirecting to a ccTLD. URLs of custom domains will be unaffected.
