When Should I Monetize My Website?

Hello,

This is my first post here, but I love reading this forum.

I have run a website for a little bit now and have been receiving around 100 page impressions per day. Currently my only source of income on the site is Amazon Associates, but I want to include Google ads at some point. I have laid out where I want the ads and I have been accepted to the Adsense program. I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for how many impressions per day is a good amount to make a decent income with Google Adsense (around $10 a day). Also, is it better to not put ads up until my site is established and I have popular Facebook and Twitter pages and have a decent email list?

    Hi

Different niche will have different results.

The best way is to test it out yourself and I suggest to start monetize it now since you have visitor coming in

Hi and welcome, I love reading this forum too.

I usually add advertising straight away. Those first adsense clicks and Amazon sales can be really encouraging. The only way I would hold back is if I were going to be applying to such as ebay who are harder to get accepted into.

How much money you make with adsense isn't dependent upon impressions. It's dependent upon your niche and how much per click you get. Some clicks only earn as little as a penny each and others can earn pounds. Most I got was £6 ($9 ish) per click but I believe that some niches or keywords go much higher.

I would say that you should probably start monetizing right away. The only reason why it might be a bad idea is if it causes a distraction.

When I first added adsense to a site, I became obsessed with how many clicks I got in a day. It was not very productive, so I wish I would have put more focus on scaling what I had already created.

That being said, if you're not easily distracted, then there's no need to miss out on any money. Even if it's a small amount.

You need to get 2000 impression a day to get $10 per day. Even-though you can put Google ads in your website, the minimum 8 unique visitors should be there to run Google ads. Otherwise account will be disabled.

That can't be right. Several of my sites get more than 2000 impressions a day with good ad placement and none of them earn $10 a day. Then some sites get a lot less impressions and a handful of clicks and make that. I'm not expert but as far as I'm aware it's niche and keywords, placement and how targeted the traffic is.

I dont know how you got this data. I with complete respect would like to make bit alteration in this. How much you earn depends on CPC so to say that one would get $10 for 2000 impression would not be accurate. In fact it takes 1000 impressions to get few clicks which adds to about a $ or two. So it really depends.

As for about 8 unique visitors...there is no such rule defined by Google. But with such a less traffic Adsense would be all useless.

Yep, it depends primarily on the niche. Different ads pay different amounts per click. A large number of people who depend on income from Adsense on their website choose their niche accordingly. Some niches are notoriously paid higher.

As for when you should monetize your website, I think its ok if you start now. Most people from what I have seen seem to monetize their sites instantly .

Hi... congratulations for getting accepted in AdSense.

It is good to know that you have popular Facebook and Twitter pages..but I would wish to warn you before you get into trouble. Getting too much traffic from social networks may lead to disabled adsense account. The best way to get traffic is via Search. Another kind of traffic manipulation can create problem. So please see to it.

Monetize straight away now you have being accepted to the adsense program. Just be careful where your traffic comes from and do not put too many ads on your sites. I have done both these and not been paid by google if the traffic cannot be tracked, with my ads after the updates last year my niche sites got dropped. So i was advised to take some ads of and the sites are coming back slowly.

Thank you so much for all of the very quick replies! I have added an Adsense ad on my site and will see what happens in the coming weeks. I have added many Amazon Affiliate links and plan on adding many more, but Adsense ads are fairly new to me. I was curious what the best placements are.

Currently, I have a 250x250 ad on the right side panel of my site, above the fold and directly under an opt-in to a mailing list offer. I have plans to add Adsense ads on both the top and bottom of each article I post. How could that affect my reader's thoughts on my site, could it be negatively affected?

Don't worry about that. Test different placements and see what performs the best. Then you will have discovered the setup that is most positively affecting how your visitors see your site.

Ok, thanks for the tip, I decided to put the 250x250 ad back on the right panel and have placed a larger ad at the bottom of each post. Now it's time for the waiting game Hopefully within a week I'll have some good statistics to go by.

Impressions, probably around 10,000 per day. To reach $10 a day, it all depends on how much money you're making per click. Are you tracking to see how much the average click is worth to you?

I would put ads on your website now. Why wait until it's established?
