Some Good Words about GoDaddy (for a change)

Just got off the phone with GoDaddy customer service...had heard horror stories, but after being a long-time user of GoDaddy for domain registration services ONLY, had to call in.

My issue was that I had had a .fm domain auto-renew on me this morning, without my realizing 1) it was gonna happen (I got married this last weekend) and 2) an .fm auto-renew is $80!!!! So I wanted to call in and see if they would reverse the renewal and give me back my $80 from a domain I was never using.

Once I got off hold (admittedly it was closer to 10 minutes than I'd have liked), the call itself could not have gone better. Once I explained my situation the tech, Lenny, reversed the charge in something like 45 seconds. I didn't really even need to explain myself too much, he knew instantly what had happened and that he was going to refund my money. And he inquired about my upcoming renewals as well (to which I said I'd just gotten married and had been 'off the grid', but would be checking over the upcoming domains soon myself.)

All of that in 45 seconds - so today Three Cheers for GoDaddy! While I probably never would recommend GoDaddy for anything but being a registrar - but if you use them for just that, I think they are the best! Their registration process is quite easy, despite all the complaining about the upsells....their 'domain manager' interface is about as good, and complete, as such a thing could be. The large customer base insures that other folks you may deal with in domaining likely have a GoDaddy account, and the 'push' process is no big deal with them.

So again, Kudos GoDaddy! For a change, at least.

I just use them to purchase my domains. They've been great so far. I don't like the whole SOPA-Support thing, but I still do business with them. For now... Don't push it Go Daddy!

I too use godaddy for my domains, but there too many offers for hostine, email service bla bla so I kind of get confused, as a result I get hosting elsewhere.

I've have most of my domains registered with Godaddy i have not had any trouble with them yet.
The only thing i don't like is the auto renewals they do plus all the up sells
when you go to purchase a domain.

Please understand that GoDaddy no longer supports SOPA :

Go Daddy Mobile - Domain Search, Go Daddy Commercials

While there was a time where GoDaddy did support it (and helped in revisions of the legislation), the beast that is SOPA grew to much more than originally planned, and included many things that define it as a "loser" in terms of our individual protections as website owners (we'll avoid going into the whole shebang here, as I am certainly not qualified to debate on such).

so only good words ..but let me tell my story :

2 days a go i bought a domain from godaddy auctions with " buynow" option. after a couple of hours i realized that the name i bought is not the one i wanted to buy ( its one letter difference ) . so i payed 600 euros for this domain name ..i took i ticket and.. waited more then a day and nothing.
i finally decided to call them after 1 day. they made me hold almost 14 min to tell me that they wont be refund my money.
After all this i must wait until 13 feb so the name i payed to be mine.
      My conclusion: GoDaddy suxxxx

GoDaddy have managed my personal domain for about 9 years now, and I have had no problems whatsoever. One has to expect a certain level of "salesmanship" in their communications...which often is useful in that it may bring something something useful to one's attention, that otherwise may have just remained part of the big unknown!

Soprano, you really paid 600 EU for a domain, and then realized it was the wrong domain? I'm sorry to hear you got stuck with it, but for a 600 EU purchase, you definitely gotta make sure it's the right domain first! I can sort of see how for an auction they might be more likely to hold people to their purchases...otherwise the whole auction idea falls apart...

        ...

Also, in my original story, yes it was an autorenew domain. I only in the last 6 months have gotten myself into setting the renew to 'manual' for every domain I buy...which again is pretty easy to do in GoDaddy's sales funnel. Just find what you need in the midst of all those upsells and the sales funnel isn't so awful really...can't blame them for trying to make their $, it's what we all do too, right?

Yes, GoDaddy has good customer service. I once had bought a domain and was uploading my website. They were more than helpful!

Godaddy has a great refund policy if you call in within several days. Don't know of another registrar that does. Their telephone customer service is always top notch.

I just dont know what people expect service wise or support wise paying under 10 bucks a month for hosting. You get what you pay for, thats all I can say.

Most of us are talking about using Godaddy as a registrar. As far as hosting goes, they're the world's worst hosting company.

Even domains, Godaddy makes things as automated as possible because, well how much profit is there offering under 10 bucks hosting and in this case 80 bucks for the year?

I myself havent found much fault with Godaddy hosting, knock on wood. One of my sites averages 45k unique visitors a month and I use Godaddys shared hosting and only had a problem once in the last 3 years. Of course by saying this my site will crash and burn now...
