"Beginner's Luck" a hoax?

Hey warriors,

I have been really contemplating this issue over the past few days and even weeks now:

Is "Beginner's Luck" real or false.

What I mean is... I and many people I know personally do extremely well on things when I try them the first time and slowly, as I start to learn more of it, that "success" starts to fade away. Not necessarily in monetary terms.

For example, you may have an unorthodox way playing certain sports, but still succeed but later on you are told that it is wrong and you stop doing it and stop succeeding.

It applies to our lives because we all know the dreaded "information overload" and I constantly get emails and see folks trying something, it mildly working for them and then after a while it just doesn't work anymore.

Now, I'm not a psychologist, statistician or a scientist but I always felt that if we can harness this "power" of doing very well the first around and if we are able to maintain it, we can sustain the success graph.

For some weird reason I listened to Napoleon Hill's stuff again and he talked about something that all made sense to me in a split second at around 3:30AM in the morning.

He said "Anything you do must be done with enthusiasm, even if you hate the job, still do it with enthusiasm, and it will not only enrich your life, but also enrich other people's lives as you are noticed by others"

Although a little out of contest, it all makes sense. When we all begin something, a sport, a new strategy to improve our business or anything else, we have that initial enthusiasm, that confidence of "I'm not afraid to fail or not relying on the outcome, I just want to try out something new and have fun."

It reminds me of every successful person who says "do what you love and you'll automatically succeed" maybe what they meant to say was "do what you love and you will automatically have the enthusiasm that will guide you to success"

Since we are in a recession right now where majority of the folks are actually depressed, most for no other reason but that fact that they are listening to the news, maybe being enthusiastic and believing in yourself will trump anything?

Just wanted to share a 3:30AM moment with you guys that I'm still trying to make sense of.

So my question is, do you believe that beginner's luck is a true phenomenon or is it hoax.

In sport although certain "unorthodox" techniques may get you a certain way quicker than the accepted normal technique the reason that you are told it is "wrong" is because it would tend to be more difficult to improve past a certain point.

For example: in tennis many relatively uncoached players will use a lot of slice instead of a top-spin shot. This may well result in a greater consistency and therefore better results at lower levels, but, as they progress they will find that you can only hit the ball so hard without it going out if you are limited to slice - this will put them at a disadvantage against opponents utilizing top-spin to keep their harder shots in and ultimately will stunt their progression.

When they then correct this technique and learn another they have to almost start again and it seems as though they have "stopped being successful" which, in a way, they have but, the aim is to be able to improve later when otherwise you wouldn't have been able to.

How literally this applies to business is debateable, however, I feel it would be fair to assume that certain techniques whilst easier to begin with will also cause difficulties when you are looking to expand your business.
