Shady marketing or killer technique

I was browsing the Warrior Forum blogs
and noticed someone blogging "reviews"
for a WSO.

When I clicked the link to the WSO I
noticed it was a redirect. I did a double
take as I clicked a URL in the format the
forum uses.

Well, this person is showing the end URL
but hyperlinking it with an affiliate URL.

So I ask you...

Shady or smart?

I say shady because they make it look
like it was posted with parsing off.

That seems a bit shady to me, yes. Is promoting affiliate products in WF blog postings even allowed?

I'd have to agree. This is pretty shady. From what I hear, there are few people who do WSO's who generate them (there's a generator online that makes up comments for you), or they pay people to do them or trade services to get reviews. Totally not cool. The reason that they do this though is because they are good sales people who realize that their product won't be sold unless there is some sort of social validation for it. Say, a well known warrior leaves a review or something. You can usually pick em out of the crowd though. My advice is to steer clear if you see something like this, because that means that the product is probably sub-par. With a great product, you won't need to do things like this. It will sell itself, because people will write reviews naturally. There are a lot of really great WSO's here though that AREN'T like that, which is awesome....

It is my understanding that you are not allowed to post affiliate links of any kind in your blog here.

Shady! Unless they are using a very convoluted and complicated tracking system, what's the point of the redirects?
