Google screwed me ... how can I capitalize??

One of the hotels that my company owns is getting swamped by ads from our competitors via google.

Priceline, expedia, booking.com, hotels.com, even the marriott are stealing attention from my location.

How can I capitalize on this specific situation?
Can I buy all those placements?

Google "screwed" YOU? How so? Does Google have a personal vendetta against you? And how is Google "screwing" you because one of your company's hotels are (gulp) "getting swamped by ads from our competitors via google"?

Are you saying that Google should have known that you and your company's client hotel wouldn't like it if the other hotel advertises?

Google (or Priceline, or Expedia, or Booking.com, etc.) aren't screwing you or your hotel: you guys are screwing yourselves as far as I'm concerned where the best you can do is this posting.

How can you capitalize on this specific situation? Shore of nuking the internet, you can't.

I've got a revolutionary concept for you: how about doing your own advertising and marketing to counter the attention the "other" hotel is getting via their ads?

I can't see your screenshot, but I'll tell you right now you better hop on the wagon as they say and work with Priceline, Expedia, etc. to make sure you're hotel is listed right along with the others in their directory. Those discount services are the devil because they cater to people looking for the lowest price possible. Summertime is just around the corner and you don't want to be overlooked, because of the volume of customers you'll miss out on.

As far as ad buying, it won't matter because people already know to look to these third party companies anyway if they're going to be traveling in that area. You'll just have to join up and play the bid pricing game. It sucks because you'll have to offer cheap rates, but hopefully you have other services to offer customers once you get them in the door.

First - If someone has gotten to that point in a search, they are probably looking for your facility anyway, so they aren't going to click over onto the Marriott ad. (I didn't get that ad BTW)

Second - Do you partner with any of those discounters? (I don't know the industry, so not sure if you should or should not). When I do that search it appears that booking.com gets one of the top listings and is booking rooms for your hotel as well as hotels.com. My guess is that if you didn't partner with them they probably wouldn't be trying to go after "your" keywords.

Third - Yes, these are paid ads, so if you want to pay enough for the terms, you can have the ads. A quick search shows "Hotel St. Marie" gets about 22,200 global searches and about 6,600 local searches. You would probably have to bid $1.20 to be at the top of the list of ads. Some more generic terms are going to cost you over $4.

    • I'm not sure you guys are understanding the OP's question.

He has a listing in Google Locations for his hotel. It comes up at the top of search for the phrase "Hotel St Marie". If you click on the map you get the pop-up with the hotel name, number of stars (4, and that's pretty impressive) and other info.

The ad directly below that is for the Hotel St Marie.

Off to the right there is a $99 link with a pulldown menu. Pull it down and you see ads for the discounters.

The OP wants to know if he can buy those four ad slots as well.

My opinion is that AdWords wouldn't allow it on one account. If you had five more AdWords accounts and each ad had a unique landing page, yes, you might be able to do it.

But this question properly belongs in the AdWords section.

        Thanks for all replies.

At this point we are just discovering that google allows so much competition down to our map location. Don't get me wrong Google can do whatever they want.

This wasn't the case a month a go.

The question in the title of this post ask the question, "How can I capitalize".

I'm just trying to get some ideas from this trusted source, to make a push to get back some of the commission dollars we are going to give to some of these hotel conglomerates.

Basically swap what we would give out in commission to market ourselves.

        Thanks.

I agree with alot of what others are saying. Google isn't screwing you. You could be doing the same that the other hotels are doing.
