Maximize affiliate commissions

I am using a customized free product to drive customers to merchants I am an affiliate for.

I get a percentage of sales that use my link, but these are items the customers will purchase over and over. They will likely come back to the merchants directly, and I won't get any commission on those sales.

Does anyone have suggestions on how I can maximize my commissions with a setup like this?

I thought of maybe negotiating a fixed fee per new customer that would be higher than my average order commission.

Any thoughts?

    Yeah you can ask for increasing your commission for bringing new customers as you are playing the lead role here.Otherwise you may choose an affiliate program that offer recurring or lifetime commission.

    Is this a subscription based product? If so you will receive commissions for as long as the customer remains on the subscription.

    You could ask the developer if you can give a small percentage of your commission to people who buy the product from you in the form of a small concession; or if you are allowed to offer discounts to the clients.

    That could ensure that people who buy from you initially return to you because of the lower price you are offering.

    Then find competitors who'll offer you better rates, or negotiate for better commissions.
