If I Can Create Decent Looking Websites

How could I offer my services? Currently I can do the following :

- Create a simple, clean site layout
- Decent graphic design skills
- Create simple logos and banner ads
- Do it all in less than a few hours

I use Xsite pro and edit the default templates using my leet graphic design skills, anyone know of effective ways of offering my services to people churning out basic websites?

Leet does not mean decent. I think you should strive for more than basic and do what you can to keep learning and learning while you go.

Or if you want to do it online, get yourself a website and a portfolio. To build a portfolio, you might want to do a few projects for free to start with, then offer a ridiculously low price and gradually increase it, client after client. You can do that on this forum as well, maybe in the Warrior For Hire section.

Also, apart from design, I guess you're talking about the graphical part, you should learn HTML and CSS. For that, you can try HTMLDog.com

If your skills are decent indeed, then I would start out by freelancing some work on sites such as odesk and freelancer. This is also a great way to build a portfolio. Hope this helps.

If I were you...I'd probably quickly put up a site...showing some examples of my work.

Then go out and talk to some small businesses about creating them a simple one page website just to give them an internet presence.

Once you start doing things...you'll learn more.

If for some reason a client ask you to do more than you can handle...just say "Sure I can do it." then outsource it.

    Just "Take Action"

I think getting the sale or promoting the item is one of the biggest parts of the website

You could find local businesses without web sites or ones that have very poor sites. I don't know about where you are, but there are tons of those where I live.

Just make sure not to use the "word" leet when talking to potential clients.

To start, get yourself a domain. Then create a half dozen designs as your beginning portfolio. Then spend $20 to place an ad in the Warriors for Hire section of this forum. Then put a link in your sig file to your design site. Make sure you make it plain as to what you can do, what you're offering and how much you charge.

There's always direct mail. You could even walk into businesses and ask for the owner. Or you can do what alot of people in the "offline marketing" section of this forum do... cold calling. Make sure you have examples and case studies of the service you're offering.

I think your skills are well suited to the needs of various people. The best way you can get hired is by creating accounts on various freelancing marketplaces such as www.odesk.com , Freelancer.com - Hire Freelancers & Find Freelance Jobs Online , vWorker.com: How work gets done. Guaranteed! , www.elance.com etc. Create good profiles with sample works etc, and then start bidding on projects that you think you can do.

You will need to be patient though - getting your first few projects is difficult because you don't have ratings. Make sure you satisfy your clients so that you can get good recommendations and then work can flow in regularly

If you have any services you are willing to do for $5, you can even post it on Fiverr - Hire people to do things for $5

    I hope this helps

Sounds like you have the web design stuff covered. So now it is time to borrow some basic selling books and/or audio/video courses from the library and get some sales ideas.

Depends if you want to work with local businesses in person, locally.
Or online, with customers around the globe, through odesk, elance, etc.
      Or both.

      Local sales:
If you want to sell on a "local level"and be your own sales force, some folks have tried buying up domain names relative to their local city and it's business categories, then creating websites on these domains, which they would have ready for sale.
      Site such as:

[Example: If you lived in Detroit, Michigan]

      www.detroitsBestFordDealer.com [ford sales]
      www.detroitsBestDentists.com [dentists]

Naturally the keywords around the ford dealers would be the names of local dealers in that city. Same with dentists.
Then detroit area ford dealers or dentists googling themselves would (theoretically) find your website.
If they liked it they could contact you for buying your site.
Or for building them one just like it.

You can always visit some web master forums for more promotion/sales ideas.
