Should I Abandon Blogging to Google+ Only

It seems that the opinions about G+ are all over the map! Some respected, tech savvy folks have abandonded their blogs in favor of posting solely on g+. Others flat out refuse to +1 anything. So, being new to IM and having a very limited amount of time to invest, I wonder if posting on g+ only is a smart move?

    I think it's a seriously dumb move.

G+ can be yanked by google at any point. They've done it before (Google wave or was it buzz)

you need your own domain, use whatever the 'in' network is these days to drive traffic but I'd never trust everything over to someone else's property.

    Hi there
Personally i can see great potential with G+, i am active on there and do get traffic from G+ too, there are a few benefits that i spotted very early on that i never hear mentioned but do work so G+ is a goer if you are into social media, on the other hand if you are limited for time then you really need to be taking a good look at other ways if it is traffic you are looking for as there are way more powerful ways out there

    All the best

IMHO google+ isn't worth it. Google had an opportunity to really challenge facebook, especially with their record setting signups for the beta...but then they fell short. They released an unfinished product that offered nothing the average user cares about besides maybe circles, and the site is to be quite frank ugly. But with that in mind, this is google we're talking about, and it's clear they're determined to keep pushing g+ more and more. As of right now g+ consists of mostly just nerds but I suspect as google forces the hand eventually and changes up page ranks based off g+ stuff more will adopt it.

Here are some reasons not to drop your blog for g+
1)Google+ has a LOT of rules, and they seem to just keep adding them, which may hurt your ability to make money.

2)Google+ isn't taken as seriously as a blog is, it's more of a who can I stock next kinda thing, where as with a blog you can customize it all day and can really create something beautiful and profitable without having to deal with all of googles rules.

3)owning a blog gives you complete control, where google can and has shutdown google+ accounts for little to no reason. There was also a bug where a shutdown google+ account locked you out of gmail etc...i'm not sure if they fixed that or not, but personally I find that quite disturbing.

4)Google+ is still too new, blogs are tried and tested, and make people money all hours of the day.

    5) Blogs like wordpress(my favorite) is both extremely easy and has tons of themes, plugins etc...so you can be up and running in no time, where as Google+ is still quite limited.

    6) The blog ecosystem is a strong one, tons of places to get recognized and plugged into to help get more traffic and more profit.

Now with this said there's no reason you can't make a google+ account to help market your blog, website, products etc...use it to compliment, not replace.

I also think you should have your own domain and blog. Don't leave anything exclusively in someone elses hands (in this case, Google's). Supplement with their tools and media, but keep ownership of your own assets, or learn the hard way.

I would no more do this then I would abandon blogging to twitter or facebook.

G+ is just another social tool. A lot of people are convinced that its going to change the face of the internet for good, I am becoming less convinced of that as each day passes by. I have a G+ account and was an early beta release user. I collected hundreds of people mainly off reddit and yet I hardly go there. I have the name+ sitting on the left of chrome and I rarely go in there. I am on twitter much more.

So far I have yet to see it catch on at all beyond the tech community. A majority of your typical end users are just not interested, they are quite happy with facebook. I was with my sister recently and she asked me 'how do I get rid of that crap in the corner, I don't remember agreeing to sign up to that!'

The real matter for me with G+ is its nothing really new. Google are entering a market which has been played out and fought over for many years now. They just assumed they could muscle everyone into using it with google service accounts, but it does not seem to playing out as they expected (again).

Also I don't really believe Google are untouchable as everyone seems to believe. I remember when AOL were the kings of the internet, and then yahoo were the darlings and everyone wanted in.

Both are good points. I'm on g+ and I do really enjoy it. I'm learning a lot from those in the tech community; however I have very few "family and friends" in my circles - mostly because, as you pointed out, they're all quite happy with fb.

I would never abandon your own website or blog for a social network that you have absolutely no control over. In business, you need some sense of certainty and your own virtual real estate is critical.

You should definitely use G+ but not instead of your own blog.
