DLGuard - can this be done?

Quick DLGuard question for you all.

I've got DLG installed on SiteA. It works great. I also have SiteB selling physical CDs (different product) and I'm going to now offer MP3 of that same product.

I want to use the same installation of DLG. My understanding is that when a SiteB customer buys, they will be given a download link with format www.SiteA.com/dlg/otehrstuff

I would prefer the URL to be of the form www.SiteB.com/dlg/otherstuff.

is this possible through any kind of PHP or masking? I just don't want customers be be confused as to why their download link is on a totally unrelated domain.

Yes you can, I sell several products on several websites, and I file those products on the same website, you only need to change the download address for each product an you are ready!

I really love DLGuard, it's an amazing program, and Sam`s customer service rock!

Yadira - can you explain this a bit more in detail? What do you mean when you say "you only need to change the download address for each product".

I understand that I can add a new product into DLG and I can set the download address to be any http:// address. But I think the download page is always going to be www.MainDomain.com/dlg/some_other_stuff

    Am I incorrect?

I really don't care what the address will be, my customer receive the email with the download page, they go to the page and download, that's it.

I don't think the customer concerns about the address too, they just want the product and DLGuard make that happens safely to you and your customers.

When I mean to change to change the address its the address where I storage the product, this can be on any website you want.

    Hi Chris,

As everyone has said, most people will either not notice, or won't care.

Having said that, I know sometimes you can't share domain names between niches for various reasons (eg. If you're buying an ebook on how to knit a scarf, it may be a little odd to get a download link on a gambling domain name, for example).

If you have this kind of issue, then I'd suggest you register a generic sounding domain name using your second DLGuard licence.

This way you can use this second account to manage all of your sites in the future.

    cheers
    Sam

Sam and others - thanks for the replies. I think I'll just do as you all suggest and not worry about the change of domain for the download link. At least, as you pointed out, by the time they get to the DL page the money has been spent, and if they are curious enough to wonder what the other domain is then maybe my other product will get a bit of free traffic

aren't the best people to ask the people who actually wrote dlguard?

Can't imagine it would be a problem, unless they deliberately crippled the download page to prevent specifying teh actual domain rather than teh page on the url...

Jon - Sam Stephens wrote it and he replied already above. It is not a situation where he has crippled the download page. It's due to where the script is installed. If the d/l page is not on the same domain as the script then I guess it doesn't work.

Anyway ... issue more or less resolved (by me not worrying about it anymore)
