G purposely shows only a small percentage the backlinks that they recognize. If they show them all it will enable the wise to get a better idea of how their algorithms work.

Yes, I second that. Don't pay attention to Google links......not accurate at all. 6 of by blogs are from PR3-PR5 and yet, when I check Google, I see about 2 or3 links.

Yahoo's tool : LINKDOMAIN is better, but still not 100% accurate, its about 60-70% accurate.

Again, don't focus on inaccurate statistics, just keep focusing on building one-way links.

Part of that is because Yahoo counts every page on which you have a link. For instance, it would count every, single, thread here on the Warrior Forum as a separate link because of my signature file. It also indexes each page.

Google counts each link from a domain as one link and also indexes only one link per domain for the keyword.

I know this because Yahoo Site Explorer shows all my forum posts as individual backlinks and because Yahoo shows 42 million results for my keyword and Google only shows 13 million.

Sorry To bump this but I have a question.

So your saying that when posting in forums etc or anywhere from the same domain it is better to just use different keywords as anchors? Or just one backlink per site?

If you use different keywords as anchors, that will help you rank for different keywords. Otherwise, with Google it's one backlink per site. So two or three backlinks with the same keyword won't help you more than one will. But if you are targeting different keywords, then more than one link WILL help you.

And with forums...respect the wishes of the forum community. Many forums just don't like links to 'commercial' sites posted (which they consider "spam", regardless of your 'helpful' comments). Especially non-IM type forums.

There are many sites that allow links nowadays that are NOT forums. That's one nice thing about Web 2.0.
