If Someone Will Write a Nice "RSS & Trackback" Tutorial That Would Be Great!

I'm confused! What is an RSS feed and how can an internet marketer take advantage of one? What is a Trackback and how can that be useful to an internet marketer?

I hear them being talked about, and as soon as the word pops out my eyes glass over and whatever comes next doesn't matter cause my brains checked out.

Can someone make it 5th grader simple for me so I can get back in the game?

A trackback is just linking to a site. This gets recognized in wordpress and most forums. An RSS feed stands for real simple syndication. It's a method in which your content can be delivered to readers who use an rss feed reader such as found in Yahoo or Google when you sign into your account as well as a method of bringing content into your website and have other sites pickup your content.

I setup incoming rss feeds from a source for coffee news for a client and got their site ranked high for having the content coming into her site.

RSS feeds can most easily be setup using a blog format such as wordpress. I used plugins to make the feeds post to a page as opposed to along the side of the posts.

    Hope this helps a bit,

    Rick

Good, good — very good. Now I can see why people use the RSS feeds, after the adage "Content is King". Now they can propagate content from relevant sources on their pages, albeit not unique as it's simple "automatic" rebloging — is this correct?

Still a little confused on the trackback. I've heard you can doing trackback spamming — so this would mean informing hundreds of blogs that you've posted a link to their blog, and they are what... supposed to link back to you as a result? If you are both posting nodofollow trackbacks to each other it seems in vain.

A trackback is a link to a wordpress blog, how does it work? if you own a wordpress blog/site and you mention another wordpress blog(s) in your site, for example if you wrote a link post or a roundup (i hope i am not confusing you more), the blogs you mentioned will actually get to see that you mentioned them, thanks to this trackback feature and can actually come over to your site to see what you have written about them. if you are good about your blogging business, they might become regular visitors. How can it work for you? It is a great way for getting noticed by and also building relationships with other bloggers and even influential bloggers in your niche.

RSS on the other hand is simply used for syndicating information/news feeds i.e. getting information to be passed to different people or sites. for example, if you have a great site that you update regularly, say , once a day or more, your visitors can decide to subscribe to your rss feed, that way, they always stay abreast of new posts. How can it work for you? besides rss being a way of getting your readers to be up to date, it is also a source of one-way backlinks, all you need to do is sign up with rss feed aggregator sites (most of these sites actually are PR3, PR4, PR5 and even PR7. I would have loved to post a list of these high ranking rss aggregators but my post is still less than 15, so no links for now

    Hope you found this useful?
