"Oops I forgot the link"

The first time I saw people making excuses to mail me promotional stuff twice in one day I appreciated the attempt.

"Woops how silly am I - I forgot to send you the link in my last email. Here it is."

"Oh dear I'm not sure what's going on with my mailer so I'm sending you a second email today."

But now every single list I'm on seems to be doing it.

Here's the thing - and I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

Regardless of what you did to get me on your list in the first place if you're lying to me then you lose your credibility. I don't even take the time to leave your list, I just filter you to the spam box.

And yes, I'm sure a small percentage do actually make a mistake and forget to put in the link but I'll happily take some collateral damage if it'll mean I don't have to read an email of someone lying to me trying to sell me on something.

And the worst part is you really should assume I've seen it before in nearly every other list by now - yet you still do it.

I'm not asking for daily free content. The Fast Attack guy (I can't remember his name) even sends daily promotional stuff and I can't remember ever once seeing any content. And that didn't really bother me so much.

But as soon as you lie about your reason for emailing me I have reason to doubt anything else you say on a sales page.

I actually realize I have no point here. I've just seen at least three of these emails today alone and needed a rant.

I have to 2nd this. I had the exact same problem with the Fast Attack guy (I think his name is Craig Mako or something like that). Its very disappointing because I bought 2 of his WSO's and they were spectacular. I even tried emailing him or his support to ask for content instead of every email being a sales pitch. In the end I obviously got no reply and just unsubscribed. Im right there with you and starting to hand out fake emails to any list any more.

I was actually using him as example of constant promotional emails. That I don't mind so much, I'm not demanding free content constantly.

But I don't appreciate being lied to and I don't think it's worth ruining your credibility to increase open rates. And that's what they're doing when the third person of the day tells me they forgot the link the first time or whatever version they're using.

I know everyone insists that the money is in the list - maybe I'm not a ready buyer, or maybe it is because my pocketbook is pretty flat most of the time yet, LOL, anyway, I have NO problem unsubscribing very quickly if I get pushed by too many buy this, buy that emails.

Don't these people know that many times we are on more than one person's email list, and that it all gets a bit tiresome? I appreciate the ones who only send me emails a few times a month, and then usually only about some good information that they just published on their blog - about something like an update that Google did, etc. that I am happy to be told about.

I think many marketers wish to blast their list as hard as possible. I'm sure there's a balance in their head of "I'm willing to lose this many clients to gain this many sales."

    It's a smash n grab technique.
