Is there a reason why people paragraph autoresponder messages in a certain way?

I noticed that after a few words, they would break the line and go to the next line to finish the sentence. Is there a certain rule for auto responder messages? Do they format it this way so that's it's easier to read on all computers? Thanks for your help everyone!

Email clients tend to introduce line breaks. Generally 50 characters is a good choice for writing autoresponders if you are doing this yourself.

The format it that way so that a message will appear in a universal way on all email clients.

    Cheers

For any question that starts with, "Is there a reason why," the answer is almost universally "yes."

Like Tim said, if you want to make sure all of your recipients see your email the same way, you might take certain measures to make sure that happens. This is just one of them.

Always test the mail sending to your own email address, before sending to your subscribers. It helped me a lot to correct any mistakes before it goes to my subscribers.

I always try to emphasize, sometimes I will make a new line and preface it with a arrow like so -> to make point. I also use dashes

        - blah blah
        -blah blah
        -blah blah

I think this might be what you want to hear yes it makes people think and act upon your link at the bottom.

mmm when writing emails in autoresponders, I think it is important to leave the message clear and easy to read. If you write a hole chunk of 500 words without line breaks, the best guess is that the subscriber will unsuscribe the very same day.

I use to write small pieces of sentences, separated with line breaks. Easy to read, easy to follow and it is nice to the sight.

Just think the following: If you are a customer, what would you prefer? a nice styled mail with line breaks or a chunk of 500 words altogether? If the message is readable and nice to you, it will be for your customers also.
    Regards!

If you use something like Aweber, they actually show you the line break in the box when you are creating the email - which is very handy.

They also give you the option to send an html or plain text version which will cover you for those who only get text style emails.

The seemingly random line breaks you describe are the result of the writer formatting the message at a certain line length using 'hard breaks', coupled with a reader that is set to word wrap at a shorter length.

The reader breaks a sentence at, say, 60 characters (common), while the writer using common word processors might have a line length of 80 characters (also common). This can create 'orphan' fragments of up to 20 characters.

    Because people are growing more
    accustomed today to reading in
    columnar format, the overriding
    format of most online copy,
    including on mobile devices.
