Offer as free gift or attempt to sell?

Ok. So I'm in the process of making my first product, an eBook for a certain niche. Now this niche isn't IM it's about a disorder. I am using some background knowledge to create this product but for the most part I am looking all the information up online.

My main goal is to set up a list for this particular niche and then sell the list various solutions to their problem via affiliate emails. I would not be creating another product on offering a solution because I am not trained in the medical field and honestly don't have the ability to come up with a solution.

This is just a way to get my foot in the door with IM and the niche is perfect for me. But my question is should I offer my informational book as a free gift through a squeeze page or try to sell my product for pretty cheep, like $7, and thenn have a list of buyers who need a solution and are willing to pay for one. Thoughts?

Thanks
Pete

Offer as a free gift. Always try to provide value to your subscribers first.

I would offer as a free gift to start, and then have a one time offer after they opt in. Still have a chance to capture some buyers.

I would not be creating another product on offering a solution because I am not trained in the medical field and honestly don't have the ability to come up with a solution.
You say that, but then mention the niche is perfect for you? Not exactly sure what you mean by that. Regardless, whether its a free product or something they have to purchase, make sure it's of good quality.

I agree that you should offer your product as a gift. If you're not confident enough in the product's ability to offer your customers a solution, how can you convince them to buy it?

      Just my 2 cents

I agree with this comment you can only sell something if you have confidence in it that it is worth a price. There are people online with proven track records who will create the products and offer them to you for sale that help you more easily form a buyers list. my first choice is David Vallieries, also watch eric holmlund and Eric Louviere. I would suggest buying one of their products with plr till you learn what constitutes a good sales product for creating a buyers list if you want to go that route.

Definitely start out with a free product -

You could try and put a price on it first, but since you are new in that market, you're at a disadvantage.

People buy products from really great sales copy or because they know the person or know of the person - when you get people opting in to get your free valuable information, then you have a chance to Wow! them.

Create another product and offer that one to them...

I have to agree with all of the people that say offer as a free gift. Then market proven products to your list if you feel you are not qualified to create the products yourself.

I would offer it as a free gift with a one time offer after they opt-in, build your list then maybe create another product to sell, if this is the niche for you then there are lots of subjects within that niche to create a new product.
    Good luck

This is truly common if you wanna build your own list. Before you experience some sales in your affiliate account, you need to offer them a free gift first. They like something free, so there's no doubt that they should opt-in to receive the free gift. After that, you can start giving value with affiliate links through your follow-up emails.

I'd offer it for free if I were you. Read Ca$hvertising. In it they talk about the psychology of free gifts. When you give a user something for free (and it is actually something of value) they feel psychologically compelled to repay the favor to you. It is definitely worth trying, as it pre-qualifies your list and makes them far more likely to read future emails you might send to them.
