Default eBay Classified Section for eBooks, any good?

Hmm, now I have to try and top my title

A while back I dropped an eBay business like a hot potato because of the ever changing environment and not looking so good for the seller. Now, I want back in!

I read the terms for digital products and they now have to be classified ads.

Do the classifieds get seen?

Is it a big drop from the main eBay auction listings?

Louis

I think classifieds are absolutely a great tool for eBooks. They allow phone numbers and email addresses, and word is they don't want website addresses, but I've never had one pulled because the website was linked. This policy has gone back and forth.

Hi Marcus,

Do you make a lot of sales of eBooks this way?

I've compared eBay Classifieds with Google Adwords with the exact same products. When using a website URL my CPC is much lower with eBay than Adwords because the cost of the ad is $10 for 30 days. This doesn't result in more sales than Adwords, but a much better ROI.

The other advantage of eBay Classifieds is that Google ranks eBay listings quite high (usually top 5). I use long-tails and this works well. It is a proxy to rank a product for your keyword well.

As to answer your question directly, I prefer article marketing an ebook and driving them to my website over eBay, but I have done well with selling downloadable products with eBay. The only problem is the copycats. If they see your product continually relisting they will pop up all over and drive down margins or sales. This is much worse on eBay than anywhere else I sell, even Adwords.

Can be very good - and if you want to automate the process of burning, labeling and shipping your eBook check out Auction Acrobat, a program that delivers orders automatically to your customers.

Thanks Guys.

George I was hoping you'd pop in. Are you still having much luck with eBay? If I remember correctly you was/still are a big eBayer right?

See, my main problem is I don't want to ship CD's just for lead generating and I don't fancy trying to make money directly from the listings as Marcus mentioned there's copycats (big time). And the feedback policy's a joke.

I'm gonna try my luck with the classifieds and I'll let you know guys.

Louis

Can anyone tell me how to find eBay classifieds so I can post an add. I could really use the url exactly. Trying to find this on the eBar site has been a nightmare.

Thanks in advance.

I saw a few sales after posting my ebook on Ebay's classified section but not much. It's definitely worth a try.

Why they hide the classifieds section is beyond me. It took me a long time to figure out where to post by ebook. I forget the link but it's in there somewhere.

One way is when you are listing.
Go through the listing process and when you get to the "select a selling format" you select classified ad.

hope that helps.

How many ads did you run for each item?

I only posted one ad. It lasted for 30 days, and like I said, I only got a few sales. I never thought of posting multiple ads. Might be something else to try.

This maybe a stupid question but...

Can I sell my membership site via ebay classifieds?

www.CashmakingPowerSites.com is my flagship and I'd love to put it on ebay but does the whole no-digital thing apply?

Thanks

Good idea with driving article marketing traffic to Ebay.

Certainly adds to the trust factor which should result in increased sales.
