Why can't I adjust font size and text type in Wordpress?

Warriors, in my Wordpress theme, I can not change my type of font style in my text or change the size, except for things like H1 or H2 etc. I know in the older Wordpress versions you could change sizes of text and fonts on the toolbar.

I find this so frustrating.

Help! Is this an all CSS thing now?

To adjust font size in wordpress go into edit your post. In the dashboard on the far right side you will see what looks like a row of colored boxes in a bigger box. When you hover over it with your mouse it says show/hide kitchen sink. If you click on it another row of controls will appear. On the far left side of the bottom row you'll see a form box with the word paragraph inside it. Clicking on the drop down arrow you'll see you can make several HTML font size/type selections. Just highlight the words you want to make bigger and select one of the HEADLINE selections.

    Hope this helps you out.

This might as well be CSS settings in your current theme.
I usually revert to Firefox' firebug to see whats going on, and them hop over to style.css to play with settings.

That's the first thing that popped into my mind. I run into CSS problems all the time when a client insists that I perform some SEO magic on some cheap template he bought from one of 'those' sites.

This is what I'm talking about, that just changes it from things like H1, H2, H3 or bigger. What if you want to choose font sizes like size 5 in one section, and size 20 in another..and also use different font types?

I just wish you didn't have to edit the CSS files and just edit it directly in the toolbar when posting articles. I know you used to be able to change fonts and all that with ease there. What a pain.

This theme gets my enthusiastic vote. Especially the latest version. I use it almost exclusively for all my blog installations now.

Just upload this plugin which gives you a full functional editor for your posts and pages. Also has tables and a lot more.

WordPress › Dean's FCKEditor For Wordpress WordPress Plugins

Here is a demo of what you get

    FCKeditor - Demo

You can also adjust the basics in your CSS file. Its a little old but you should get the gist of it.

Yeah, I second the suggestion of using a more robust WYSIWYG editor plugin. I don't use FCKEditor though - I use Advanced TinyMCE, but it's the same principle.

I find that the text handling is really a weak spot in a LOT of themes out there, and it's a shame. They get caught up too much in the "look" and the "design" without a care for readability.

You can see it when you demo the themes on the WordPress.org site - they have post content designed to show off the text handling and it's almost universally terrible - squished line heights, headlines with margins that can't accommodate line wrapping, messed up quotations and lists, etc.

Anyway, end of rant - I feel your pain.

I tried to use Advanced TinyMCE - with no joy .. cant drag the cool whiz bang tools to the editor toolbar for some reason ... FCK - bombed too.

      Arrrgghhh ....

Yes, if you don't want to mess with rebuilding the code to get a theme to look decent, then absolutely go for Flexibility2.

Amazing that you get this excellent theme for *free*! I use it on about 25 blogs.

Hey Warriors, thanks for the positive feedback on my Flexibility theme. I just wanted to let you know I'm in the process of coding a squeeze page version of the theme, called FlexSqueeze (sounds like something Arnold would say, eh?) that enables you to make any WP page a squeeze page.

You'll be able to remove the header, navigation, footer, etc. as well as the sidebar. You'll also be able to use a custom header graphic specific to the squeeze page, as well as use a width that is independent of the rest of the blog.

I'm also including a bunch of squeeze page CSS styling that you can easily implement into the page including feature boxes, big bullets, text highlighting, custom forms and buttons, etc.

I'll make an announcement on WF when it's released, hopefully next week.

    Thanks Warriors
    Ryan

The plugin will save you the time definitely! But you can also adjust the font manually. On the right side of the dashboard you can see a row of colored boxes in a bigger box. Put your cursor over it and it will show/hide kitchen sink. Then click on it and another row of options will appear. Then on the left at the bottom row of controls there is a form box with the word "paragraph" on it. If you then click on the drop down arrow you'll see you can change the font to several sizes and selections. Simply highlight the text you want to alter and make the selection in the menu to alter the text! Hope this helps!

Just want to add that the Flexibility theme 2 really does rock. So thank you for making it! When I was working on Wordpress 2.6 sites I loved the ease of use but I never was happy with the existing themes or how to modify them. Flexibility solves all of those issues.
