Hi there,

I want to purchase a Fiverr gig which provides me with royalty free images. How can I check that these photos are really royalty free?

You can't check for certain. Maybe doing an image search after the fact would turn up some matches, and that might tell you something.

Does the seller say that he took the photos himself? If so, you might be all right.

But there's no way in hell I'd use photos from some random seller on Fiverr.

Head over to iStockphoto and see if they have what you want over there. They have some pretty nice stuff, the quality is good, and the price isn't bad. The licensing is very clear too.

I don't think there is any way at all to verify this

What kind of feedback does this service provider have?

Like Gail_Curran, I would also refrain from buying photos from a random person on seller who claims they are royalty free.

Just posted this on my blog CashJournals.com. This could be the only list of free image sites you'll need right now.

    1) StockFreeImages.com - With over 570K photos for download, you can probably most of what you need here.

    2) stock.xchng - Very popular free image site with almost 400K free images.

    3) StockPhotosForFree - With over 100K free high-quality photos.

    4) RGBStock - Has a collection of 72K free images.

    5) Kozzi - Over 50K free images for download.

    1) a lot of free stock photos require to link credit back. watch for that.
    2) If you drop the image to Google image, it will return all the same / similar images so that you might be able to find the original author...

TinEye Reverse Image Search is reverse image search engine. You give it the image and it tries to find sites where it's being used. Now, if it doesn't find a match that doesn't mean the image is royalty free, it's just means it doesn't know of any other sites using the image. The value, in your case, would be if it does find a match. Then you could investigate the status.

I would not feel confortable using images from an unknown dude on fiver unless he said he took the pictures or if you can see he has a website where he claims to have the rights over those pics.
