Why use forum plugin for WP blog?

I just found that there are some forum plugins for WP blog. Anyone used them? for example,
WordPress › bbPress Integration WordPress Plugins
and
Simple:Press Forum

From what I saw, they are just simple forums, why not use SMF or other existing forums? I'm confused.

I have used the bbPress integration with excellent results - it integrated perfectly within the WordPress site.

You could also use a non-WordPress forum - the WP plugins just make it easier to manage and to integrate into your theme.
