Any tips on how to successfully sell my UK property with raffle tickets !

A friend jokingly suggested that I try and sell my 2 bedroom maisonette in a beautiful suburb of London by raffle ticket.... it got me thinking ...

I mentioned the idea to a colleague and he recommended that I post a thread here on Warrior Forum to see if any Warrior members know of ways that people have successfully sold properties through free, or low-cost, raffle/lotto tickets ?

I would have to "sell" about 200,000 tickets at $1.99 each to achieve the market value.

How do you reach out to enough people to get 200,000 purchases ?
How do you collect the money ?

I want to sell it by 31st May so that it is available to anyone who is visiting London for the 2012 Olympics. I thought it could be linked in with the 2012 Olympics or linked in with supporting a charitable cause.

BUT, I must get the market value for my property.

Any ideas or thoughts folks ?

I have seen this done before. Several points:

    1. You can charge a lot more for the ticket = £9.99
    2. Sign up for a shortcode text number where each text costs £9.99 plus 1 standard text
    3. Make sure your terms and conditions make it clear that the draw will not happen if nnn tickets have not been sold
    4. Prepare a web page showing the property details - must be mobile compatible
    5. Advertise the webpage and sms number

    Hope that helps.

Not sure what the legalities are in terms of it being seen as gambling, might be worth looking into.

The reputable sms companies will advise/handle the legals to make sure they are not in trouble either

I think you'll need a license under the Lotteries Act.

People have done this, with UK houses, in the past.

Legal advice (and probably not just from a "High Street solicitor", I think) is definitely needed, right from the start! (A call to the Law Society will get you the names and phone numbers of three lawyers who specialise in whatever subject you specify.)
